Guys, what method do you use to shave your facial hair?

When I first started shaving, I used a mug with shaving soap and a brush, and I used a single blade injection razor. Later, I switched to using canned shaving cream or gel, and a multi-blade razor. Currently, I have returned to using a mug with shaving soap and a brush, and I use a five-blade replaceable head razor. I enjoy having warm shaving soap on my face and I shave slowly so that I get a very smooth shave. My wife doesn't want to snuggle if my face is "spikey!"

What is your current preferred method for shaving? Why do you prefer it? Do you use canned shaving cream or gel, mug with shaving soap, or regular bath soap?

I don't shave

I use a brush with bar cream in a cup or dish ( usually have multiple soaps in use). I use whats referred to as a Safety Razor. It is a double sided straight razor blade that refills in to a handle called a Leaf Twig. I tried useing a traditional straight folding razor with bad results. The safety razor is the best move i made in reguards to my face and my budget. In fact now you started me thinking of upgrading my handle which i probably won't pull the trigger on.

Yea i know and i would like one thats more adjustable to when i last shaved. My current one is great only its specifically for people who shave consistantly. I dont like to shave daily.

I've used an electric trimmer my whole life. Haven't ever used shaving cream and a razor. Was always too scared to cut myself with those things. With a trimmer, I just run it along my face and I'm good 👍🏼

So many men on here wasting money and wrecking their skin on those awful modern razors.

I've been old school wet shaving with a double edge razor, shave soap, and brush for over 10 years now. When I started, I bought a 100 pack of blades for the double edge razor for only 5 dollars and they lasted me almost a year. I have super sensitive skin but old school shaving doesn't give me a burn like the modern style.

1976, that was a good year. I have a white mug that was used by my dad. I use the brush.

@Dongie In 1976, I bought two of these mugs: one for me and one for my dad. I lost my mug when it got left behind when I separated in 2002. I found the same mug on eBay and secured a replacement.

That's a nice story. I hesitate to ask, but is your dad still alive? I ask in reference to what became of his mug.

@Dongie My father died in 2007. He was remarried and I never got anything that belonged to him other than the things he gave me while he was still alive.

I'm lazy and impatient. Modern, replaceable multi blade razor cartridges and canned shave cream.

But I have a full beard at the moment and I cut my own hair. So I have a cordless trimmer with an extensive set of guards. The trimmer also has attachments for eyebrows, nose hair, and ear hair. Lastly I shave my shaft and balls with the multi blade cartridge razor then trim and shape my pubic hair with the cordless trimmer.

Oh, also a pair of professional barbers scissors I use for some details of haircuts where the trimmer just doesn't work so well.

I've tried a couple of different electric foil shavers over the years but I tend to get razor burn from them. Either I wasn't using them properly or my skin just doesn't like them or I bought shiity electrics. It appealed for the "on the go" aspect of being able to shave anywhere. But I haven't had one for years.

As for shaving I use a Gillette Fusion 5, Trader Joe’s Shave Cream & if I’m lazy, missed a spot with the Gillette or pressed for time I breakout the Remington & mow the grass.

When i was an orthodox Jewish Rabbi i let my beard grow , it was short around 2 inches long from age 20 to 30.

Later i started shaving with gel and used a shaver with 5 multi-blades together the 5th picture. Now i just trim my beard with electric shaver. I choose 0.8 milimeter. And trim twice per month.

I keep like a four or five day growth and just shave around the edges to keep the lines straight. I use an electric trimmer set very short to trim the actual beard. I just use a single edge straight razor with shaving cream after I get out of the shower for the shaving part.

I shaved clean every day of my career for like 50 years. This is so much easier.

I do not shave.

I gave up shaving in my late Teen’s, due to my sisters constantly stealing my razors. If I bought a 10 pack on a Monday there would not be a fresh sharp one left by Wednesday. Instead I use a trimmer set to a No3 comb twice a week.

I use a Dollar Shave razor with a two blade, replaceable head. I just use water, no soap. I get a really clean, close shave. But I only have to shave my cheeks and neck because I have a trimmed goatee that connects to sideburns.

I haven't shaved since 2012, other than cleaning up the edges. I use a double sided razor for that.
