Yeah, a time or three.
I used to work in very tall building on the 28th of 29 floors. We processed IRS tax checks all day every day. My job was to run around the entire floor picking up finished work from one section and taking it to the next section it had to go to so, as I tend to walk fast and we were NOT allowed to have open windows or doors and the ceilings were so low, they practically scraped my head (I'm 6' 9"), and there were usually at least 50 people on that floor 24/7 (and, during our 4 peaks per year, there were well over 100 per shift), there was a LOT of body heat up there!! Especially in the summer!!
The clothing rules were as follows: Men were not allowed to wear shorts because there was a possibility of someone slipping a check up their pants leg and stealing it! Women COULD wear shorts, as long as they wore pantyhose under them because it was very likely (supposedly) that a check would slip out because of the pantyhose but, if they wore a skirt, they didn't have to wear pantyhose.
Well, in my other life (as it were) I'm the drummer in a rock band and had been wearing mini skirts and pantyhose on stage for 15 years, by this time, because it gave me the freedom to play my double bass drums the way I do which pants, or even shorts, wouldn't afford me! So, I was no stranger to them!!
So, I asked one of my bosses if it was okay for me to wear a skirt to work so I wouldn't get so hot & sweaty every day doing my job. She said that, as far as she was concerned, it was okay with her and there's nothing in the dress code that says men CAN'T wear a skirt and, she said that if anyone gave me shit about it, she'd stand up for me!!
So, the next day, I went to work in jeans, as usual but stopped at the bathroom on the 27th floor to change into my skirt! I wouldn't have been allowed to take my backpack onto the floor on 28 and that's where the bathrooms were! On 27, the bathrooms were open to anybody. No security at all. Then, I went up to 28 and put my stuff in my locker and went onto the floor as normal and started my work. At first, no one noticed the short black scooter skirt but, within minutes, they started to notice and were commenting but, 90-some percent of the comments were in support of me wearing it!! I was on the floor maybe 20:00 before another of the bosses saw me and mentioned it to one of her bosses who told me I couldn't wear the skirt! So, I went back down to 27 and changed into my jeans and went back to work. Everyone that was cheering me on for wearing the skirt started raising hell over them making me change and said it was discrimination and that I should speak out about it!! They suggested I go to the local t. v. station a few blocks away and tell the consumer advocate about it and make an issue out of it but, I opted to just let it go! The boss who said she'd stick up for me did so and even took me aside and said something about how everyone wanted me to wear it, or something like that!
Sometimes, I still run into people that I worked with there that remember that day and say I SHOULDN'T have backed down!! Well, I didn't wanna start a ruckus and lose my job so, I just did what they wanted.
A few days later, I was told that HR now included a rule in the dress code that men were not allowed to wear skirts on the floor!! Lol. I made them change the rules!!
Is it a church or a school, maybe it wants to be both?
I love Impact and Comic Sans fonts here, shows that whoever designed this enjoyed too much internet.
Such hilarious dress codes haven't been forced on me and my comrades back then, there was no dress code when I was at school. Well, no one had this silly idea to wear sunglasses in class anyway.
Also lol at the forbidden shoulders and backless tops, I suppose this dress code above must have been enforced by a 15yo boy unable to focus on lessons... I mean I understand him a bit, spring season and crop tops made things difficult for me.
But it was my problem, my business, my impulses and my imagination. That's where me and him split, I find his vision despicable, as he chose to punish the many in order to make one life, his, supposedly, easier.
Yeah I get what you mean. I wore a sweater that barely showed any skin with jeans and I was told to go home and change my sweater. It wasn't like I was wearing a crop top that showed my belly or bellybutton. I was a freshman in high school.
I had my rebellious phase in school where I got a few times in trouble for dress code.
Totally get you, strict dress codes can feel so suffocating 😅
It’s frustrating when you just want to express yourself and keep getting “no, no, no” for everything.
What helped me was finding cute outfits that still fit the rules: nice jeans, fun tops, accessories, cool sneakers. You can still show your style, just in a sneaky, smart way 😉

no, i wear whatever i feel like.
i love society having strict rules, it makes sweeter for me to break it.
the buttons of my button down can be seen as down as to show my abs or just my chest but they never cover my neck aside from former dressing.
There was absolutely no dress code when I started high school in the early 90's. The surfers came to school in tank tops, flip flops, and board shorts. The cholas from the hood came in looking like hookers, the gangsters could wear all their silly gangster shit. During 10th grade that all changed.
I absolutely hate dress codes. I struggled with them at the place where I used to work when I first got out of school. I finally told the guy who was trying to enforce it to go fuck himself, and I quit.
No, I have my suits, shirts and shoes in order.
in high school the boys had to wear a jacket and tie. One time I wore a pair of corduroy Levis ans spent the afternoon in the vice principals office.
Thankfully I have never faced anything like that
Yes because I have long arms and legs. A skirt that is knee length on a shorter girl is mid thigh. Same with tops. It can be annoying lol
No, most are easy to follow
Nah, never have.
Nope
