Have you ever been dress coded at work?

That is how the world is now. Everyone has to stand the line and look like slobs. Dressing up is seen as "excessive".
I got dress coded before when I wore a black dress shirt and chinos. Told me "you look like you're going to the opera". Haha. And that is my more casual look.
Now that I am a prof though I can wear whatever I want. So I wear my vintage suits and other dressy attire.
Omg fr they rlly think its our dressy clothes. At work i was in a buttoned up black and white plaid shirt and my coworker was like “ur dressed up today where r u going?” I said 😅 “the grocery store lol”
@Boomchakalaca A woman stopped me in the street one time and asked if I was going to a wedding because I looked handsome dressed in a three piece suit. I was like "Nope... this is just my style". Haha.
I was an administrator in a K-12 school system. I was hired to be the project manager for a technology upgrade. I often climbed up into ceilings or down in the basement. I usually wore jeans and sweatshirts. The superintendent actually wrote in my contract that I was supposed to dress "administratively.
You had to wear a suit & tie to do janitorial work?
@FunkyMonkee not a suit but a dressy shirt and slacks.

Yes, at least once or twice.
The only one I can remember was when I was working for a bank on their IRS project. Men aren't allowed to wear shorts, for some reason but women are allowed to wear short skirts! The theory is that men can secretly hide checks up their shorts but women can't do that under a skirt because they also had to wear pantyhose under a skirt. My job was running around the floor all day moving the work from one section to the next so, I'd get very hot and sweaty up there on the 28th floor with about 100 people and no windows to be opened. I don't think we were allowed to have fans, either. But, 100% of the women were just sitting at a desk, shuffling checks and papers or using adding or coding machines! So, I asked one of my bosses if I could also wear a skirt. She said it's perfectly fine with her and there's nothing in the dress code that says I can't! And, if anybody said anything about me doing so, she'd stand up for me! So, the next day, I wore a skirt to work. At first, nobody noticed. Then, one of the sub bosses saw it and said something to her boss. He came to me and said that I'd have to wear pants. So, I changed. THEN the shit hit the fan!! Most of the women started getting pissed that I was made to change into pants, said that I should sue for discrimination and that I should change back into the skirt! The next time we got trainees in and they were reading off the dress code, it said that men weren't allowed to wear skirts!! LOL! I made them change the dress code!!
U made history lol
Sure did!
I JUST remembered another one! I was a security guard and we had to wear these cop-like uniforms while on duty. One night, I had to stay over night in a trailer on the grounds of school that was being built. It was a fairly hot day. I only had to make my rounds once an hour, the rest of the night I could do what I wanted so, I brought a few National Lampoons with me to read. A couple of them had Chris Miller stories in them (he's the one that wrote, "Animal House"). Well, after having read a couple of his stories, I kinda got an idea for a similar story about a security guard on graveyard shift who gets visited by a rather sexual girl named, Norma. Along with my hourly rounds, I also had to make notes of anything I thought was awry on each round, if nothing was odd, I'd just write something like, "situation: normal". So, I decided to use one of those report sheets as the picture at the start of the story. It starts out, "situation: normal" and, after a couple hours, starts getting a bit silly and, when Norma shows up, it reads, "situation:Norma", etc., and gets a bit more debauched as the night goes on.
Well, my shift was over about 7:00 a. m. and it was starting to get hot in the trailer so, I took off my jacket and tie figuring, I wasn't gonna need it much longer, anyway. Suddenly, about 10:00 before my shift was over, the Capt. showed up on a surprise visit, saw me out of uniform, saw the report sheet I designed for use as the lead to the story I was thinking of writing and fired me!! The only things I missed about the job was working alone and being able to catch up on my reading!
Yup. I've worn tights with a skirt before and was in a hurry so when I put them on and they ended up not being much darker than my actual skin, I had no time to find another pair. There were men in the office with literal shorts on. Yet I get told off for wearing a skirt and tights. I was young at the time. Now adays I'd point out the hypocrisy.
I've also had issues where I wear a top and feel im getting shade because I'm top heavy, so it shows more boob than it would on a small girl. It's actually not showing more than maybe 10-15% of my boobs but apparently that's still not ok. Even though women with smaller chests may be showing off 30% or so of theirs. I don't think I've ever been pulled up for that but defo had the looks.
Now adays I avoid jobs that have sexist bs rules.
I spent most of my post military career in sales and worked in management as well. In the beginning I was told to shave because they believed I was more approachable. Some places were only tie some were polo shirts. Owners are constantly fed data and research that can dictate a dress code. If you are in sales the only way to get around this is putting up big numbers. Then everyone naturally should dress like you. And if you feel like flexing your power tell the boss about how you high value client that you just made your month on almost left because tie die person caused them concern about how serious and professional the place was.
kind of, yes...
"not enough layers for these winter days"
I think they just dont want u to get cold
lmao... they don't want to feel cold when they see me, that is true, but I never feel "too cold"
I dress code geezers quite a bit.
But that aside, in your case you need to learn that you're at work, not your moms house. You prep to work, and dress is part of that. You'll never get much of a career if you don't learn that fact. You are employed as per expectations that you know how to dress.
Yes. I worked backroom at a major retail chain. I won't say its name just that it begins with "M" and ends in "all-marte".
They told us we had to start wearing shirts with collars to look more professional. I simply didn't to it cause I literally didn't care. They kept hounding me about it but I quit a few months later anyway.
One night I wore a Grateful Dead shirt to work at the bar. There is no dress code for the employees. The owner came out of the back and said "dude you can't wear that shirt in here, this is a punk rock bar. Go in the back and turn it inside out or put on a different shirt." I asked him "are you serious?" He said "totally". I laughed all the way into the bathroom.
My kid got dress-coded in school while a trans kid wore something more revealing. It’s all subjective.
Weird. I only know of one girl that had been dress-coded and that was because of jealous coworkers, not because of the management. Her skirts were too short or something.
It boils down to that, but my seemingly chill gay guy manager became a manager lol
Aah! So it's maybe more a violation of the unwritten rule to not dress better than your manager. I had that actually happen to me (with my manager dressing very sloppy).
Every day! I don't wear not much of anything. Oh wait, that's right, I work from home.
Nope, only at school. But only had vacation jobs so far
Yes, when I worked in court we had strict dress codes.
Oh, how I loved breaking those dress codes!
Our dress code is “business attire” so it is pretty vague.
So you exchanged a nice blouse, for some free tacky shirt. Interesting
Watever to keep my job
Did he maybe not want you too mess up your shirt? Seems weird to me.
It was weird. I wore all white one day to work in the kitchen and he complimented my outfit and plus i never got any sauces stains on my pearl white shirt. This instance was diff I don't know y he had a penis stuck up his butt
During the olympics yes and competitions
