Is It Not Masculine To Use An Umbrella?

I know people that refuse to use an umbrella, and even wear a coat with a hood in the pouring rain.

I've seen presidents and top dignitaries stood in the pouring rain just wearing a suit, giving a speech to the Nation.

I wear coats with hoods, and I use a folding umbrella, but do you think it's not manly to use even a plain black umbrella?

What is your opinion?

A. It is not masculine to use an umbrella.

B. Umbrellas keep us dry and they are for everyone.

C. I wear a coat with a hood, or wear a hat especially when it's raining.

I thought so too when I was a kid and teenager. Would come home dripping wet.

I remember when I was 18, a girl offered to share her umbrella when I was standing at a stoplight waiting to cross the street during a heavy downpour. She happened to be at the same university and walked me all the way there. I should have been more assertive, as I never saw her again.

I don't think I used an umbrella when I was 18 too, and I wouldn't wear a cape on my bike.

Refusing one is more about personal style, habits, or wanting to look tough, not actual masculinity. Presidents in the rain are usually doing a “strong image” thing for cameras.

Staying dry, protecting your suit or hair, and being practical is smart, not weak. A plain black umbrella can look very classy and confident.

I was a errand boy in Jax, Fla as a summer job and it rained every afternoon, No umbrella because it was easier to duct from awning to awning. And besides, when the sun came out you were bathed in steam. It was entertaining to see all the women's hair come undone in the afternoon. I started to understand the move toward short hair.
