If you don't want to talk to someone and they message you, do you reply to be polite or ignore them? Dissecting a guys text message?

If you were slept with a girl and she hasn't really made contact with you (you've both made small talk here and there and he's text me when he's out drinking) but then she messaged you after a few weeks would you reply:

A: because you like her
B: to be polite
C: just ignore it

I'm not really sure of this guy is into me but he's text me a couple times, puts smileys in his texts and just said to me "I better get some sleep :-) I'll talk to you soon" is that a polite way of saying go away or does it just mean "I'm going to bed, talk soon" to be fair he does have work at 4am.

Last time he messaged me when he was out drinking and I was a bit annoyed with him over another woman, so I kept it short and sweet and went to bed. It's been a week and a half since I heard from him but I know he's watching my Facebook. It's been 8 weeks since we had sex and we've spoken a fair bit but not about what we did. I'm not sure if he's being distant, trying to suss me out (I'm not exactly making it easy) or if it was what it was. We're states apart so he can't bootycall me.

So I guess my question is: if you slept with someone and were not interested in them, would you still be conversing with them by initiating contact and responding?

I don't know if he's into me or just being polite.
