It is a smarter and slightly less brave way to ask you out. This way if you don't call... he does not neccesarlily have to take rejection to his face.

Creepy is a term quite generously blasted onto guys. Say you saw a very hot guy that you really wanted to get to know... would you not feel intimidated... let alone go to his face... tell him you think he is lovely and you would like to get to know him... all without screwing it up? Would you not think of leaving a note (so that it is less scary)?

I would be a bit cautious ( on the off-chance that its some twisted serial killers plot), but I would say give the guy a chance by at least meeting him once for a coffee. I mean it sounds like he made your day and you really liked that note.

Usually people with genuine feelings are more afraid of getting hurt and doing things directly. they will have "hiccups" not matter how confident they are otherwise. I mean asking a genuine crush out takes a lot of bravery for a lot of people. I have seen a lot of people blush ( esp. girls) when someone who they have feelings for is mentioned (esp if its something regarding them two together).
