How to know if he likes me through text?

We've been talking for several months, and I don't really know if these are good or bad signs. He has only talked about girls once or twice, but that was months ago and he hasn't mentioned any exes or people he may like. We talk every day, but I almost always initiate conversation. He laughs at a lot of the stuff I say, and we tease each other a lot. He has a nickname for me that he knows annoys me. When he went on a vacation he said he'd miss talking to me (I said I would before). This isn't a really common thing anymore but he used to make fun of me by calling me stuff like "cutie" or "little cutie". Also he has seemed slightly protective before, not a lot though. However, he does make fun of me liking a guy if they like me, even if I don't. I hope I can at least get an answer explaining something, thanks for reading if you did. These are just some things he does, just little hints that could be a good or bad sign.

Also this would have been good to add beforehand... he's three years older than me (almost 4), so that could change up some opinions possibly.

try to ask him" do you like me cuz i like you" in a passive way.. when he talks about you looking for a guy or maybe teasing you about liking a guy.. tell him that you ain't need them cuz you have found one already.. so make it more mysterious so he might have some fun while trying to get your answer... by the way if he is begging to get the answer.. there might be a 52% chance that he is interested in you :P GLHF

You would ask "Do you like me?"

I feel like I should add here that I'm a fairly shy person, and I have only had bad experiences with asking guys that. But if I were more outgoing, I definitely would, thanks though :).

if it doesn't work then move on.
