He ignores my invitation. Why?

So I met this guy in the university a month ago. He invited me to his house and he cooked for me. We hit it off almost instaneously. After that, we chat everyday for 3 weeks. During that time, I invited him to come to my friend's gathering and he declined politely by saying he is not in town that day. About 4 days ago, I invited him again to an event but he never replies and we stop chatting ever since. Am I coming too strong and scare him? Or does he lose his interest? Should I just text him again and say hi?

I'd wait for his reply, if he's still interested he'll reply soon. Continuing to initiate contact may be coming on too strong for him.
