Hm well what I personally do is try to try and catch eye contact with him often and flash him a smile at him. Once I do that I gradually up it up and start creating little conversation. For example exchanging hellos or just general banter. Then I up it after time and give little by little physical contact (touching his shoulder or brushing past).
