Guys, do guys like it when girls tell them they think they are hot/attractive?

So basically there is this guy that is friends with my friends and I think he is extremely attractive. We've never had a proper conversation and the only communication we have is saying hi to each other. I see him in nightclubs a lot and he works in a store that I'm in quite often. Whenever I'm in the store I always catch him staring at me and then smile. The same goes for at clubs, I'll catch him staring at me but hold eye contact until I smile at him. Last night I was out and he was there and I wanted to go up to him and tell him I find him very attractive but decided it would be a bad idea. I requested to follow him in instagram that night though. If I were to do that next time i see him out at night (I'm not confident enough without a few drinks) would that be weird? Do guys like it when girls tell them they think they are attractive? Would he take me seriously in a nightclub after a few drinks? (Btw in case it matters we are 18/19 years old. Don't worry though because legal age of drinking and clubbing is 18 in Ireland, so we're not breaking any law I just wanted to see if age would make a difference in his reaction) ideally I'd like to be in a relationship with him so is this a good way to grab his attention? I will add that I have kissed one of his friends before in case that matters too.

try to have casual conversation with him. don't be in hurry. telling him he is attractive might put you down. go step by step. try to know more about him before starting relationship with him

Yes, in general it's nice to have girls try to make first moves as well, since a lot of women think of it as the man's job.. Many men are as nervous as women about these things.
