I feel like my crush provokes me to confess my feelings. Why would he do that?

Having a strong crush on my guy friend for 4 years. 3 years back too he would provoke me to confess my feelings with his style. We chatted after 3 years again after a fight and some issues. Now he says not in general context he thinks i am a sly and that he could not understand sometimes if i used to joke or say things seriously and which led him to misunderstand.

All i know is it was him who created a flirty layer and developed misunderstandings and crossed my mind. But i never confessed because he would act hot and cold.

Why does he provoke or say things like this. Does he like me?

Well, every guy seeks an opportunity with their female friends. Ot can be an opportunity to get laid (most often), become friends with benefits (quite often), or to enter a fully committed relationship (a bit rare than other two cases). So it's doubtless for me that he wants to "direct" you towards confessing your feelings. Now you may ask "why he won't confess himself". Answer is simple - in case if things will go bad, he will blame you for "loving" him and then ruining it all. Like "I was your friend, we were good, but then you started to want something more and look at us now, we're ruined, you ruined us."

Well, you can write down what matters to you in a relationship
What values do you look for in a guy? Then you can see if that person has it. Does he respect you? Does he treat you in a way different from everyone else (in a good way)?

I understand that he pressed you to ask him out, and when you did he rejected you? Did I get that right?

Nope I didn't ask him out. I just asked why he said that so he said it was a joke and he would say no if I ask him out. It looked immature. i said ok and then next day he called me at 12 midnight but he was quiet. because he knew he messed up.
