How to react to a girl's period

if there's a girl I like or if she's my girlfriend, and she for some reason tells me she's on her period, what can I exactly say in that somewhat awkward moment? is like a hug appropriate, esp. if were really flirty with each other? like an I know you're not really happy right now but I care about you hug?

which begs another question, girls when do you tell a guy you're on your period? and who do you tell? guys you like? or do you never talk about it or do you always joke about it.

I'm very mature with this stuff I meant awkward as its like...one of those oh, OK kind of moments. Like, I wouldn't know what to say. that's all. surely it can't be true that all girls are magically turned into freaks to be avoided when on their period

I only tell guys I'm on my period if they need to know why I won't/can't do something. For example, I told my boyfriend I was on my period because he was trying to finger me, and I really wasn't comfortable with it. If I just made him stop without telling him, he would've thought he was doing something wrong and felt really bad about it (he's very concerned about me that way), so I had to explain because I didn't want him assuming it was his fault. Besides that, I don't really talk about it, unless I'm feeling really crappy and want to give people forewarning that I might be a little weird.

It can be a little awkward, but you shouldn't worry too much about it. A hug is fine, or maybe asking if she needs some chocolate (that can lighten the mood if done right). Just be understanding, and try not to over think it.

haha interesting question... well first of all, I don't tell guys when I am on my period because I feel like they get really grossed out.. which actually annoys me a little bit. I mean it's reality and it happens to every girl.. and I don't think guys should be so wierded out when they hear that a girl is on her period... just my opinion!

Okay so if your girlfriend for some reason tells you she is on her period.. definitely ask her if she has cramps, needs medicine, or needs anything from you! That would give you some major bonus points lol :)

I'm usually fine just saying it if it comes up for some reason (mood swings or a refusal to go swimming or something lol). Usually just a "gotcha" or "ah, that's sucks" is fine. Hugs are probably welcome, but girls are pretty used to their periods so whether or not it's actually helpful probably depends on the girl. Personally I'd be kind of weirded out it just came up in conversation and someone tried to hug me in response. But if she's upset, physically uncomfortable, etc then a hug might be nice. But again, depends on the girl.

It really shouldn't be that big of a deal, it happens to every girl and every guy knows it.

Sometimes, depending on the way she says it, the response of "Oh, that sucks" may be appropriate (maybe cause she has cramps). Massages do help as someone mentioned.

I'll tell a guy if he asks, I don't really care. My boyfriend likes to keep track of it simply because that's when we can't mess around too much, and I like to let him know in case I act bitchy lol.

I used to tell my friend but he uses it against me so I dont trust him anymore. You could just say "okay". No need to make it into anything. Or say "Ok, can I help you in some way?"

The only time I say it is if I can't do something because of it or if I need him to buy me pads etc.

Make a big deal of it. If your going fishing hand her a bucket and tell her you need some "chum" to attract the fish. Likewise if you're at the beach tell her to swim a ways down from you. Because if she's going to attract sharks there no sense in both of you dying. If you live I bear country keep that in mind.
