I feel awkward after complimenting my crush?

I like this guy. He'd always stare at me and laugh at everything I say. When I'd talk to him he'd keep laughing. We sometimes have the awkward silence though. I'm not sure if he's shy or not. So today I decided to compliment him on his smile. I told him that he has a nice smile. After telling him that he seemed a little awkward... his face was serious. So to kind of break the awkwardness, I said something stupid like, "I'm not trying to flirt with you I'm just saying that because most guys don't like smiling". And then he smiled and gave a laugh. Honestly, I feel like an IDIOT. A few seconds later though, he started a new conversation asking me if I ate this chocolate bar this girl gave me and we continued talking. For the rest of the day he seemed normal towards me but I am still embarrassed. I felt weird around him the whole day and it sucked because I was stuck with him for 4 hours. Thank God Thanksgiving break started today. Should I just move on or should I do something? Is it normal to experience an embarrassing/awkward moment with your crush?

Hey girl, don't worry about it! My guess is, he probably wasn't expecting it, which is why his face hardened all of a sudden. It doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate it, he was probably very happy and flattered about it, but this was new behavior from you seeing as you've never complimented him before so he was most likely just thrown off guard momentarily. And well, you changed the subject so he kind of went with the flow and took that time to recompose himself.

Don't feel embarrassed or shy, you did nothing wrong ;)

he might have just been surprised and didn't know how to react...like modest...if he didn't like you he would ignore you or act kinda mean or snobby

so continue being normal but let him make the next move...even tho you kinda said you don't like him...you should hang tight because you feel so awkward you're ready to bail, so don't put yourself on the line anytime soon..

that is a good compliment he is probably very flattered. it is normal to feel awkward afterward. but when the silence came at least you said something that make sense haha. In moments like that some people say the craziest things just to break the tension. like " I like turtles!" lol

just keep smiling and laughing with him. be his friend and then give hints you want him to ask you out or something

It is totally normal to feel awkward around somebody you have a crush on. You'll end up saying and doing stupid things because you're worried about what the other person thinks and that is all part of life. If you kept hanging out after and he acted normal there is nothing to worry about and nothing to feel stupid about.
