I wish my boyfriend was more romantic. is this a sign that I should breakup with him?

My boyfriend and I have been together for about 6 months. I always love the little things in a relationship like surprise flowers or poems...or romantic dates. My boyfriend isn't really that type of person to do a lot of romantic stuff. He is more of a masculine type of guy..he is still sensitive though. I know he doesn't have a lot of spare cash so I don't expect him to pull one all the time. Even just one planned romantic date would make me so happy. He never pays for anything...

I talked to him about how I like "the little things" a couple months ago and I ended up getting really upset. Afterward, he did try texting me more often and calling more but that was about it. I didn't cry on purpose to freak him into being more romantic, I would just think he would be kind of freaked out by it and try harder. He says a lot of romantic things to me..which is great. I just want something more spontaneous and unique than that. I know he really loves me and can see himself being with me for a long time and I too, can see myself being with him.

I think you are putting far too much emphasis on romance, some men are just not very romantic, it doesn't mean they don't care, more important questions are does he care about you, do you care about him, does he treat you with respect and care about how you feel, try and accept him the way he is and appreciate that if he isn't naturally a romantic type of guy then when he does say romantic things or does something small it is because he is trying, if you can't do that then yeah ultimately you are going to end up frustrated and feeling disappointed, think hard before you dump him it sounds like you have an otherwise great relationship

don't leave him. its not his fault that he is not a mushy mushy guy. my guy is also a little sober...not so romantic. but he loves me. so... why don't you start doing the thigns you want himm to do... don't nag him or cry...just try to involve him in these things. but above all respect him for who he is

My unromantic ex broke up with me after a year and a half during which he never did anything romantic or took me anywhere or wanted to go anywhere and he forgot my birthday and didn't do anything for our anniversary. Some men suck at being boyfriends.

A guy doesn't just become romantic. it all matters on what you want and feel. But let me ask you a question. Why ask random strangers if you should break up with him? Honestly I think you may want to and are just trying to find a way to justify it.

I don't mean to come off as a jerk. I'm just saying you wouldn't ask if you weren't seriously thinking about doing it already.

Nah I don't think you sound like a jerk. I'm just new to relationships and I'm still trying to figure out if this is a subtle sign that might turn out to be a disaster later on. I guess I'm just scared that if this goes on longer, that I'm gonna end up being disappointed. I've just heard you can't change a person...so even if he makes me feel great most of the time, I don't know if that's enough to hold on to the relationship.

Just because he isn't romantic doesn't mean he doesn't care about you. He could just be bad at showing he cares.

But at the same time if you don't think it'll last and that's what I'm getting, don't bother to keep trying to hold onto something you feel isn't/won't work. Nothing worse than wasted time. Hope this helps.

well.. in my opinion I was really romantic, showering our 4 month relationship with little things, and little surprises. could tell she was really touched and happy. but then again, it wasn't enough to stop her from breaking up with me because her parents made some noise.
