The hug & rub? lol what does it mean?

So I went to hang out with a guy I'm sort of "dating" (unofficially) we hung out, went out for dinner, talked. At the end, I gave him a hug then he walked me to my car (we met up but he wanted to pick me up) and then we hugged two more times. The last two hugs were kind of tight & he kind of rubbed my back up and down gently. It felt good :P what do those type of hugs mean? Friendly? "you're a good friend" type of hug? or what?

I kind of wanted to make he first move & kiss him, but I want to take things slow. And I don't know if he likes me, I always forget to look for signs while we're talking.. ;P

We have a lot of eye contact. We talk/text a lot.

I was reading a text while we were out and I was smiling then he asked "who are you texting? your boyfriend?) (he knows I'm single.) This was our second hangout/"date".

The danger there, is of course, that he will accidentally wind up in the friend zone.

You could try being a little clearer. Or a little more blatant in the flirting. Or ask him on an official date out

How can I give him more signs that a kiss is okay? I know people say to look at him, and then look at his lips, but it's hard to hold eye contact with him because I look away quickly if it's silent and we're not conversating.

How you do it is up to you.

You could have, for example, been texting someone. And when he said "Are you texting your boyfriend?" You could have said "No, just some guy I know, that I kinda like, but he hasn't kissed me yet" And while you are saying this, you stop what message you were sending and send him one instead. Even just one word like "Hint?"

There's a dozen ways you could be more clear. But "looking at his lips" isn't one of them. That level of subtlety can be read by women, not men.

He likes you. That hug means that he is trying to do what he thinks feels good for you. I think that at this point it is your decision if it was a frind hug or more.
