Guys, why do some dudes have their wingman ask for a girl's number instead of them?

I had a guy ask for my number for his friend and I don't think that's okay, personally. To each their own, but then I think there is a lack of confidence and that means I'm going to have to validate a LOT of things for the guy who actually wants the number.
Is this a thing?
Yeah, I'm probably being judgmental, but I a go getter, if I like you & want you to have my number, I'm just going to give it to you, or I'll ask for yours...

Yeah, it's usually lack of confidence, but sometimes it's because the guy has a big ego and wants her to make the effort. The first time I ever asked a girl for her number was when I had just turned 14, and it wasn't for me- it was for two 16 year old guys who wanted the numbers of two girls at a swimming pool. Luckily for them, I had the balls to do that.

In my 20s, I initiated doing this for other guys too shy to approach. Sometimes I'd tell the girls the guy wanted to talk to them and they'd approach them, which caught the guys off guard.

If I was a girl and some dude comes over and asked me for my number I would say paper pen and give him this number 1800 go fuck your self and then I woukd asked the messenger what his number was and write that down

Sometimes the "wingmen" do a damn good job lol. I was in a bar the other night and this bloke, funny as hell, immediately got me curious about his friend.
Other times, I think the poor guy simply needs a push :3

It wasn't a good job and it immediately turned me off to his friend.

Sometimes guys are just shy... But I agree, if a guy wants to talk to you, he should speak up to get your number

I think because they’re insecure or because it’s easier. I like to start a conversation so that I can feel the woman and she also feels me, then go if we have any chemistry, ask for the phone and set future dates.
