In general, I don’t think that’s an obvious flirty thing to say. Especially the word “cool” makes it sound more like friendly conversation. But if he generally seems very interested in you, that could very well be his form of flirting. Some guys are less direct than others.

If you like him, smile a lot when talking with him and maybe touch him a little on the arm or so.

He may be flirting with you but I feel there would be much more obvious signs of this. What you describe sounds like the natural human instinct of reciprocity, where you feel obliged to give something back to someone, this could be in physical form like a gift or in the form of a compliment like yours.

Ur right. I texted him first (we don’t really know each other). We were talking about his hobby (he’s posted about it on his social media).
After I complimented his hobby he asked if I have a hobby.
If he wasn’t interested wouldn’t u think that he would keep the convo short and not ask questions back and compliment my hobby?

He could just be really nice but maybe he thinks you're cute too it's not for sure but I think it's either one of those two options
