What does it mean if a girl asks for your Instagram instead of your phone number?

TLDR- I was hitting it off with this waitress last Friday night. And after hanging out basically all night with her (still in the restaurant) she asks me for my Instagram so we can DM each other.

I went out alone on Friday night, my friends blew me off so I went to a popular restaurant I normally frequent. It was late and packed but I got a seat and what not. Long story short I got my waitress to hangout with me and sit down and chat for a while. She’d have to get up and serve other tables periodically but she’d come back to hang out. Anyway I had long finished my food and we ended up talking for like an two and a half hours. During that time we really hit it off and had some pretty interesting and flirty conversations. In the middle of it all she asked me if I have Instagram. I told her I did and without hesitation she handed me her phone and I showed her my account. And she hit follow. And she told me to DM her so we can keep talking. I had to leave eventually because the joint was closing. But before I walked out the door she made a point to remind me to DM her like five times and told me to come back to visit. Which is all cool. And we’ve been messaging all weekend on Instagram and what not. But I’m very curious about something.

If she was into me or wanted to chat more. Which ever the case may be, how come she didn’t give me her phone number. I thought that was a little strange that she asked for my Instagram.

I Do want to remind you that she asked for my Instagram. Not the other way around.

I guess what I’m asking is do girls normally ask for guys Instagrams in lieu of their phone number. Or does that mean she’s being friendly?
