Guys: can you explain what it means when a man ignores a woman?

For example...

Ignoring someone could be a sign that they are not interested.

Or...sometimes a woman will ignore a man if they feel the man has rejected or embarrassed them. Sometimes a woman will ignore a man if they feel insecure about their chances with him. Do guys do this, too?

If there are different "meanings" for ignoring a woman, how do you tell the difference?

Here's my deal - I'm a guy who likes tikes to "chase" after a woman I am interested/attracted to because I like how I feel about her ( looks, chemistry, humor, passion, conversation, interests, & steamy hot sex ). Yes, you women like to test us and gauge to see how much we're into you. You like to ignore us from time to time because you can and feel the need to have some sort of control over us. I get that. What you fail to understand is sometimes you may push your luck. Keep in mind we are keeping tabs on your behavior. As a guy, there comes a point, where we, like a light switch, just click it to the "off" position and it is physically and emotionally over. We have literally checked out ! Nothing you can do or say will chage my mind and you are left hanging without an explanation whatsoever of why we no longer give a crap about you. You will not have closure because quite frankly, you don't deserve one. Your number will be deleted/blocked and as a result, completely ignored. Don't get used to playing hard to get, because we play harder and for keeps, especially if you think you have us eating at the palm of your hands. Things can turn on a dime, unexpectedly. You reap what you sow. You are done : )

These "playing hard to get" is not always as it seems to be. You may interpret it as playing hard to get, but it might not be the case at all. Just because you can't deal when a girl doesn't what you want, doesn't mean that she is playing games. She might be busy, insecure etc.
How do you know the girl is ignoring you, playing hard to get? Guys want an independent woman with a good job, but she has to be available just for you and write back immediately? I bet if a girl replies to you all the time and texts on her own, you would call her needy

When I snub someone its almost always unintentional i just don't feel like chatting or they come and chat when i am too busy to chat to them and do whatever i am doing at the time. I am not too keen on silences they drive me nuts so i would usually just avoid the girl by keeping away from her hang outs or places she will likely be if i wasn't happy with them.

Snubbing comes hand in hand with being socially awkward and being and sucking at conversation so i can't always pick up and chat at anytime i got to be feeling it.

Men ignore women because they don't like them, they are angry, they got caught by their girlfriend trying to talk to another woman(you will know this by expecting a call from a random number) or they are just natural assholes. In that case you deserve better and be glad he is not in your life

I assume you are talking about text mesage and phone calls, not being in the same room.

I've ignored women because I was busy, because I was asleep, because my phone wasn't with me, because my phone was dead, because I just didn't feel like listening to her babble on about things I don't care about (like other guys, or her latest drama between her and her friends/co-workers), because I don't want to look like I'm whipped in front of my guy friends, and/or because I was with another woman. I've also ignored women on occasion because I was mad at them and/or just to make them miss me.

I actually was referring to ignoring in person. The man in question often talks to me through email, and texts, and asks me out to coffee, yet ignores me in person. Thanks for you answer though.

Yes, we went out to coffee once, per his invitation. I thought it went well- we talked for 3 hours, positive body language & eye contact, twice he mentioned meeting up again. Few days later he sent me an email telling me to let him know if I wanted to go out again. However, I didn't respond due to a busy work schedule, and a few days vacation. Ran into him the next week, and he was ignoring me, and acting like I don't exist...even though I was being friendly?

it seems to me from the extra info you wrote here that because you hadn't gotten back to him he thinks you didn't have that great a time when you went out. you should probably have explained why you didn't get in touch so he doesn't think you re trying to blow him off.

Hmmm well he might have taken your lack of a reply as a rejection or an indication that you weren't really interested so he might be hurt, thinking he blew it, or playing head games... if you are actually interested in him why not ask him something like "so when are you going to invite me to coffee again? I had a lot of fun last time." That's a strong indication that he didn't blow it (belive me guys can overthink things too).

I'm a 31 year old virgin... I ignore women because they are a constant reminder of my failures I'd rather get high than get rejected... So whether they are interested or not I usually don't know because I am socially retarded... and think its too late in the game to learn and pretend to be normal

Its better to try than living with the shame of being a coward. You can only lie to yourself or make excuses for so long until it's inexcusable. Besides my lack of success I quite enjoy the thrill of the approach regardless how it ends. Usually they just subtly tell you they need to go at the worst.

I'd say that if a guy ignores a woman but still tend to be around her it's a tell tale sign that he's attracted but a bit insecure. If it's due to rejection or embarrassment you will find the same guy as far away as possible from this woman if they both find each other in the same room.

I can often ignore a girl, even if she might like me, because I just assume that's not possible and/or that once she gets to know me she will just ditch me and/or that if I show interst she'll run for the hills like it has happened zillions of times before and/or because I've got lots of sexual shame

If Idid like a girl at one time, then ignore, then I'm not attracted to her & have no respect for her probably because of something she did & I now see her different & by ignoring her hopefully she gets the hint & realizes I don't like her.

Ignoring a woman usually means not interested or in some cases, if he just started ignoring you, "I was interested in you. I am not interested in you anymore. I am trying to move on."

What I do can't be considered ignoring. If I ask a woman out and she says, "Yes" and she proceeds to subsequently ignore me after trying to get to know her and setting up a date, then I keep her at a distance, while still maintaining some form of a cordial exchange. I basically keep to "Hi" and "Bye", but with a smile and a sense of urgency. Like a mannerisms that says I don't have time to talk, because I'm busy, even though I do have time, just not for you. Lol

If I ignore a woman, it's usually because I am afraid of developing feelings for her if we get too "close". I've met several women in recent years who I knew I could fall for if I wasn't careful.
I'd never be outright rude to them, but I'd only speak when spoken to and my responses would be brief and formal. It wasn't anything they did or didn't do; it was just me keeping them at a distance to keep from falling for them.

Not so much. The vast, vast, VAST majority of the time if a guy is ignoring a girl, it's because he doesn't notice her or he isn't attracted to her. Or something else is taking up his attention (work, sports, beer, etc.)

Yes, I would agree that in my experience the vast majority of men, as you said, will ignore a women if they are not interested. However, how would you be able to tell if he was ignoring you for a different reason (for example..in the case that you knew he liked you at one point)?
