How do I convince my boyfriend that he shouldn't go into the army?

I'm dating this guy and we've known each other for 4 years and I really really love him and he just told me that in the future he wants to go into the army.and I really REALLY don't want to lose him. and he wants me to prove that I don't want him to go or to convince me out of his decision but I don't know what to say. any help?

I am having this exact problem right now. I've told him this whole time that if he joined, I would leave bc I can't deal with the stress. But it's his dream job (for whatever reason) and I love him with all my heart and if I told him he can't do it or "me or the army" that's shallow. If you honest to god love him and trust that he'll be faithful and you keep your pants on while he's gone, you'll only be stronger because he will see that you're sacraficing your sanity for god knows how long, when he comes back and you're doin you and keeping stuff straight (house, kids, dogs, whatever ) he will be grateful. And if he's happy, and you can trust him while he's gone.. it should be worth it to have him be happy and do what he wants even if you don't agree with it.

I don't think you should try to tell him what to do or what not to do, but tell him how you feel. Tell him how scared for him you are, and how scared you are of losing him. I know it'd be incredibly difficult to be with someone who was in the army. Have a talk with him and see what he says. If he still choses to be in the army, maybe you need to think on if you can handle the stress of it. I think you should have an honest, open conversation with him about how you both feel, and hear his side too, and go from there.

No offense but that's stupid. If he wants to go, he should go. If not then he shouldn't tell you to "convince him to stay", he should just stay. Why should you have to prove to him you want him to stay? That's dumb.

You're just a kid so enjoy the time you have, maybe it will work out, but don't hold him back from what he wants to do in life, especially an honorable thing like serving.

Well. I was in the Army. After joining. No one wanted to be there. Not a joke if you asked 10 people you might have one say they liked it there. If you could give the other 9 a get out of the army free card, they would have taken it. Why do you think you sign a contract? If it was a place people wanted to be, they wouldn't have a contract forcing you to be there.
