Do we guys fail to recognize when a non attractive girl is interested in us?

An old female friend of mine told me that years ago she was interested in me, but I was not interested in her because I fancied a hot girl. I frankly don't recall of her interest for me. Is it normal? Is it because we don't consider the ugly girls or is it because we pursue the love of the hot ones?

I was obese once and I like a super hot guy who obtained all the girls he wanted.
I then chose to loose all the weight and became hot. Once I was hot he wanted me badly. I’d tease him or lead him on ; but not give him further details. I’d become a complete mystery to him and he’s chase like crazy. It came to the point that he started buying me food and giving me gifts.
I would bring his ego up and congratulate him for all the work he’s done. Then I’d ignore him and play games.
Soon enough I become turned off by the SIMPING and slept with his best friend.
Then he quit he was miserable when he found out.

Sleeping with all of them and then throwing them to the trash. I was gonna end up the same way. He was also a known cheater. He was known to have cheated on his BABY-MOM.
Also cheated on his EX- Previous Partner.

It seems most guys are bad at recognising that any girl is interested in them, though I can see it being worse if you already have eyes on someone else.

Would just be easier if more women did what your friend did, but at the time, I'd drop pursing someone who showed no interest for someone I already got on with who did (provided there was mutual attraction and compatibility)

I fail to notice any girl showing an interest in me. I've got way too many self esteem issues and cause of that I refuse to believe that a girl could actually be interested in me.
I've also seen some friends of mine being oblivious cause they literally didn't get the signals.
