Is he just being nice/polite?

I talk to my coworker all day everyday and both of us initiate communication. Today he told me he hates texting and having to talk to people over nothing, I told him I feel personally attacked because that’s literally what I do and asked him if I should stop and he said “it’s fine”. Could he just be polite or is there something more to it? We’ve had this dynamic for 1,5-2 years now, so it’s not recent. Needless to say, we flirt sometimes, heavily.
