Fellow queer person here. If you’re talking about gay dating culture, straight women are the wrong people to ask. Every section of the LGBT community has its own dating culture niches, but gay dudes especially seem to operate in a very different realm to anything I know about as a lesbian. Your best bet is to observe and ask around where you can in your local area. Find your peeps, and half the battle is already over.
