just don't be in a hurry and scare him off.
Keep talking to each other, go out a few times and you will know if he likes you or not.
If he doesn't ever respond back then you have your answer, if he does keep talking then you have your answer.

  I live out in the country, so an hour plus is nothing around here.
  Distance really has nothing to do with it.
  I've driven 4 and 6 hours one way to meet someone, and it was fine.
  If it is important to you, you will figure it out, just don't rush things, that's all.

Anytime now. Just have that conversation at one point, about what each of you want out of the relationship. Too many times, I've seen break-ups come out of disagreement or misunderstandings of what was expected for the long run.
