"My crush said/did that... what does it mean?" - why are people unable to communicate while flirting?

I've noticed that a lot of questions on G@G seem to be "My crush said hello to me, does it mean he wants to marry me?" or "I bought this girl a coffee at the vendor machine, will she date me now?" and honestly it makes me wonder if the majority of young people - and people my age - have grown so socially inept that they are not capable of properly communicating.

Many people in your generation rely heavily on texting on their phones to communicate with others. Texting is an inefficient means of communication and much of te information in verbal communications is lost. Volume, inflections, pace, emphasis, etc. . . . all are missing from text communications. When you text a question to a woman and she tects back to you, "fine," does that mean she agrees with what you said, or does it mean she is angry and you need to find another place to sleep tonight?

If you spend most of you tme texting, you smply miss much of what humans convey to each other, and not understanding each other is the result.

Testing and social media have literally numbed my and close generations, to the point they can pick up social clues and basic human interactions.

I also find it particularly cringeworthy when they use the word "crush" and they are well into their 30s.

I don't know the answer, but I've been laughing, and scratching my head over this one for a while now.

Maybe the people are lying about their ages? I sure hope so. But I don't think so.

My hubby says he's read this is happening. Communication skills have plummeted due to social isolation from covid.

It's much more than Covid. I believe it's been trending that way at least 5 years. Maybe 10. Maybe 20!

@Jamie05rhs is right. I think it's an effect of social media and maybe even current medium/contents that show characters falling in love with all those tricks and tracks.

I'm no casanova, but I found out that being direct with a bit of tact can do wonders in getting a date and more. Communication is key.

I agree, I see questions like that and wonder how these people manage to function in the real world. There are many things in life you're not taught but naturally my learn through childhood by observation but it's like these people grew up in isolation.

More people than we think are neurodivergent and and many are more open about it. Don't think it's fair to label that socially inept or stupid as I saw below, the way they interact socially is way different from the norm, thus interacting with others in these situations will be difficult for most
