dont overthink it because you will never do it. With guys it doesn't take much. look for the guys who are very confident. or if you like shy guys then remember shy guys require more work and it will require you to take the lead. With confident guys they will take charge once you are talking to them. with most guys all you have to do is show up and say hi. The tricky part is staying in the interaction the longest. I dont know if you will be able to handle that. most people run out of things to say and move on.

If a girl comes up to me, smiles and says hey then that's all I need for a start.
She has the confidence to come up to me and starts off looking happy, the rest is up to fate.

Guys are usually crap at conversation so you have to give them something to work with. So for example if I want to chat to one I've never seen before in my local pubs I might open up with "what brings you to..." or "holiday or working?"

A guy who looks interesting will always be more approachable than a good looking but boring one.

This totally depends really on the woman and the guy. Me personally if it’s someone I’m attracted to. I would be happy. Otherwise I would try to be nice and not kill her confidence

So few women approach men to begin with, that just doing so in tbe first place already demonstrates confidence and assertiveness. Have something to talk about, clean up beforehand (but not excessively made up), be easygoing, funny, natural conversationalist, etc. Don't compete to 'win' the conversation. Somemen are unable to take a hint and might need a more direct flirty approach, but this can be overdone too.
