It's not in person, only via messaging - hasn't gotten racy or sexy, and nothing's happened between us - we've complimented each other and like each other, but neither party has done anything about it. Thus, to me, yes it is cheating. Not in a physical way but in an emotional way, which is just about as bad as the physical way. By flirting with the other girl, you let yourself go to a potentially dangerous situation.

If you were given the opportunity, then you would take it and then the emotional cheating leads automatically to the physical cheating.

Your best option is to talk to your girlfriend and see if she forgives you. Always remember, once a cheater, always a cheater...
