This guy I've been flirting for a while mostly texts me hmmm when I ask him something. Does it have a specific meaning?
The meaning of "hmmm" in a text message can vary greatly depending on the context, the nature of the relationship, and the individual sending the message. Generally speaking, "hmmm" is a non-committal expression that could indicate a range of emotions or thoughts, from skepticism, contemplation, doubt, or simply that the person is thinking about what to say next.
In some instances, "hmmm" might be used to convey that the sender is intrigued or considering the message they've just received more deeply. It could indicate that they are pondering your previous text and formulating a response. In other cases, it might suggest skepticism or disbelief, serving as a soft challenge to the preceding statement. Sometimes it is used to create a pause in the conversation, perhaps to subtly prompt the other person to elaborate on what they've just said.
Since "hmmm" is so ambiguous, it's difficult to interpret its meaning without additional information. If you're unclear about what the sender meant, the most effective way to understand their intention is usually to ask for clarification or observe it in the context of your broader interactions with them.

The phrase "hmmm" in a text message can have a variety of meanings, and the specific interpretation can depend on the context in which it is used, the relationship between the sender and receiver, and even the tone of the conversation so far.
Sometimes "hmmm" is used to indicate that the person is thinking about what you said and may need a moment before responding. It can also signify that the person is unsure about how to respond, or is unclear about what you're saying.
In some contexts, "hmmm" could indicate that the person is skeptical about what you are saying and might need more information to be convinced.
It could also signify a lack of interest in the conversation, showing that the sender is not particularly excited or engaged by the topic at hand. Sometimes people use "hmmm" when they don't want to commit to a yes or a no answer.
If it's at the beginning of a conversation, it may indicate that the person is formulating an impression or judgment about something you've just said or done. At times, people just use "hmmm" as a conversation filler—much like "uh" or "um"—especially when they can't think of anything else to say at the moment. Occasionally, "hmmm" might be used as a subtle way to change the topic without blatantly saying so.
As texting doesn't provide the same contextual cues as face-to-face interaction (like tone of voice, facial expression, etc.), the meaning behind "hmmm" can often be ambiguous. If you're unsure about what the sender means, you might consider asking for clarification or observing how the conversation progresses to gain more context.
He doesn't trust you, if you use it in a question or your telling him something and he goes hmmmm it means he doesn't trust you bc he's thinking? My boyfriend does it to me all the time when I catch on to something or I tell him for example I just got up but I really didn't bc he knows
They usually do that when they’re going to be taking a few minutes to think about a question and don’t want you to think they stopped responding.
Hmmm has multiple meanings based on context.
Hmmm can be used to acknowledge something, ask a question in a lazy manner, or show that you were thinking about something.
If someone calls your name and you go hmmm? You are acknowledging their presence, and asking them what they want.
If someone asks question, and you go Hmmm Then you are thinking about the answer in which you should give for the question.
If someone ask something or says something that you don’t understand or think it’s dumb you can go Hmmm? Or huh?
If you’re listening to someone or agreeing with someone you might put a M at the front and make mhmmm. There’s a variant of this known as “uhuuu” now there is something similar to this, but has a different meaning “ahaaah” which signifies the understanding of something.
If someone asks a question, they’re not comfortable with or don’t know the answer to you might even see a errrr.
If someone is upset or stressed you might get an argh either that or they want to be a pirate.
There’s a bunch more of noises with meanings that aren’t words necessarily.
So, I use hummm... in response to a question as way to of expressing that what she just asked is something I never really thought about. So like Hummm... I have to think about that and get back to you.
In this example I usually just do not say Hummm... I say Humm, I am not sure about that. Or Hummm, I have to think about that and get back to you.
Sometimes I Humm... because she just said something that I am uncertain about. Like Hummm, not sure I know what you mean? Or Hummm... are you sure about that? Or Hummm... I am not sure that about that.
But if he is just saying hummmm... And not following up with any additinal comments... then yes, he is just fishing for you to say more before he really gives a legitimate answer.
I have woman do this to me as well. You say something and she says Hummm.
I always respond with, "Humm, what?" or I say, "what makes you say that?"

"Hmmmm" means "thinking about it".
It just means he wants to fuck and you're just making him think about what he has to say to get in your pants.
Stop. Making. This. Complicated!~
I use that one all the time , it just kinda means " let me see , I will get back to you " ..
Or can also mean " Yeah , probably okey , I will check " , this kind of stuff.
No the bastard has nothing to say , so he is playing it safe. Next time type , hey ur x told me u have a microdick and u pre ejaculate ,,, and c if he says, mmmmm ,, he a cocksucker,,,, just tell the bastard to cut it out.
I've seen people use it to mean different things. Some use it to say they are thinking. Others to mean they disagree. Still others may use it to show they agree with something. It's best to ask the person you are texting.
I had a girl text me that as well that had me thinking why is she saying hmmm a lot? I asked her and she said it’s just how she talks in person as well
Hmmm can mean he's thinking of a response, or he is uncertain about what you said and needs clarification.
He is thinking about it, or is just being polite and not saying what is really on his mind and telling you what he would like to do to you.
You have peaked his interest.I feel like when people respond with "hmmm" they are trying to be playful/mysterious especially if it wasn't a serious question or conversation.
Ask him directly about what he means. I don't like that type of mind games. I mean if you want to say something, speak up or don't
In my case, I would only say hmm when I don't feel like correcting whatever she said that is wrong and instead just say hmmm
Probably just thinking over whatever you said to him before.
it means he's thinking, doesn't want to answer, busy, changing the subject, or wants you to elaborate.
Texting is not the most effective way. Just call him ssk him out snd you will know.
The only person who knows the answer to that question is him.
If you ask a specific question and guy only replies "hmm" and nothing else after minutes pass, he's not having interest in having actual meaningful conversation with you.
she doesn't want you she doesn't care about you she doesn't like you
Busy doing something
Or not interested in the topic you are talking about
Killing timeTypically it means that he is contemplating what you said
He is a novel idea, try real communication for a change. 🤦♀️
