What does it mean if a guy says “oh” through text message?

There is this guy I have been talking to and when I told him I liked him he seemed like it bothered him a little. When I asked if it did he said no. A week later I told him that I didn’t know if I liked him and all he said was “oh”. He also told me that I should try to date some guy that asked me out. Then he said that the guy was dumb and that I shouldn’t anymore. So I’m just confused. Please help!!!

He did like you but didn't initially say so because he was nervous,
By the time he was willing to confess or accept it, you told him that you did no know if you liked him, which was a blow to his self esteem.
His asking you to date the guy was his attempt and minimizing his pain by seeing you in a happy relationship.
But he asked you not to later because he realized that the other guy was not worth it and he wouldn't want to let you compromise with someone who was not worth you.

First you confess your feelings. Then you say you're not sure. That "oh" was either "oh ok then" it more likely "oh ok that sucks, I kinda liked you back". Just my thoughts.
