My dream girl gave me the MOST welcoming smile of my life... then it all went wrong.
I was in a bad mood, work sucks, I was feeling the emptyness of work, otherwise I was ok. I'd gone down in lifts to grab something and I was waiting in a small queue of one (guy) for a lift to arrive.
I usually hang back since I don't like to take busy lifts, prefering to wait for an empty one. When I looked up, the most perfect girl looked back at my, frankly, frowning face! She smiled THE most singularly welcoming smile I've EVER seen. It filled me with a warmth and I automatically smiled back, before my system of self doubt kicked in and I wondered if she was just being polite, indicating room for me in her lift.
At this point, all was good, I'd returned her smile. I went into to the lift but the guy in front took up so much space I was forced to stand sideways to the pretty smiley girl. She continued to smile (always good) and I turned my head towards her smiling, but then it suddenly occured to me, what if this was a polite smile? what if she had arranged to meet the guy infront of me? what if I intercepted HIS smile? I didn't honestly think that was true, but under the pressure of being near her I was frankly panicing now. I looked, smiled, felt I was staring, turned away, felt I was ignoring her so turned back. I got shyer and shyer. Then realised I'd not activated my floor, so I panicedly reached past the guy who was blocking half the lift and stabbed at the button for my floor. I looked back at her, saw she was smart, intelligent, put together and all sorts of lovely and suddenly I felt "this couldn't work, she would get tired of me" (incidnetly worst thought ever). I just kept looking at her nervously and looking away until she obviously got fed up and asked her co worker (another girl) how the kids where, with somewhat annoyed tones (honestly, fair enough, I don't know what the hell is wrong with me). All I had to do was say "Hi", instead I lock up and seem like moron
The modern world is killing me, we see so many people only one time. This girl is in the same building as me, but I'm just not going to see her again :|. Each floor is secured and isolated, you can't go to a floor without good reasons and even if you have good reasons you can't just search for someone you once saw.

What Girls Said
There's no reason to keep beating yourself up over ONE girl. There are many women out in the real world that you can probably connect with. You've overthought this and beaten the topic to a pulp. It's in the past. Move on.
good luck with it
Thanks. I suspect it is game-over there sadly. If by some miracle I do see her again I'll be sure to actually talk to her.
