Can a guy and girl be friends even if they like each other?

There this amazing guy I like and he told me he likes me too. But I don't want to be in a relationship with him. Can we still be friends or will it be awkward?

No it won't be awkward at all, unless if you actually want to spend any amount of actual time with this guy.

Seriously what's wrong with you that you don't want to be in a relationship with a guy that you think is amazing - do you really think that he's amazing (around you) because he want's you to stay away from him? Chances are that when you spend time with him 'as a friend' he'll resent the fact that you don't want to be in a relationship with him (in spite of his inherent awesomeness) and you'll see this happening when he stops actually listening to you (btw I can look a woman right in her eyes and 'listen to her' fairly well even when I don't care)

Soon any amount of time that you spend with him you'll be wondering why he's there (is he just playing the waiting game to get in your pants, or is he really a ball-less shell of a man that you couldn't possibly have any feelings for?) every moment that you spend with him will be another chance to test to see if you really are another person to him or if you're just another name on his 'to do' list that he's patiently finishing.

So, how do you keep your self from going through this nightmarish hell (not to mention not crush his heart?) JUST DATE HIM YOU HEARTLESS BITCH!

I'm curious too what your reasons are. I was in the exact situation you are about two weeks ago. We both liked each other but then she told me I was too good of a friend to lose. It makes me wonder why wouldn't a woman accept taking a friendship to a relationship level if they both like each other. I can somewhat understand why she would decline, but she is contradicting herself to say she likes me and then wants to remain as close friends. Even if she gives me the "stay friends" response (which I'm ok with doing if she isn't comfortable) it still feels like she isn't totally telling the truth; just sounds like the basic crappy rejection response, like she's got something to hide, but she doesn't. She told me she liked me but then her actions are confusing. Why lead me on (in a way both of us for that matter) and then choose to stay as friends.

Maybe you could clear this up for me, it'd be a great help and I might be able to answer your question with a little extra feminine insight. =)

Haha ok. well even though I REALLY like him. I can't stop thinking about him allday. But we aren't going to be together forever its a high school relationship and it won't get past a couple of months. Then what? it gets awkward and we stop being friends. I can't risk that. I need him in my life at all times not only when were in a relationship. I rather have in my life as a friend than lose him for good. my friends all tell me to stop leading him on but I like him&i can't hide my feelings for him.

I can understand you, but then I can't. I think you're hurting yourself by realizing that the whole "high school" thing is making yourself play it safe because you know you'll be out of there in a couple months and won't see him ever again. Using that reasoning, then why date anyone in hs if you know that it will only result in being a fling that will amount to nothing. I agree with you there, but you can't just throw away times and opportunities like that.

I don't think she means to lead you on but its just hard to get in a relationship with someone who your really good friends with because you know how most relationships end. Thanks for answering me, that's what I thought, it's just something hard to swallow. Being too good of a friend hurt me, even though it sounds bad it's true. I'm definitely giving her time/space; it's not that I want to not be friends with her, I'm so glad I am, it's just that she sorta lost me by not wanting to lose me if you know what I mean. It's just disappointing, that's all.

I think it's not that easy to stay away from relationship when you like each other.

Also having guy as a friend in my opinion is more special than having a girl

as a best friend. Friendship with girls can be only friendship, there's no other options,

but with guys there are two ways - boyfriend and girlfriend thing and just friends so in a period of time

feelings may occur (and you can't really control your feelings ;) so than appears this

decision making, which is nasty horrible thing - you want both but going further risk to loose

everything.

I had similar situation before my prom, I saw my friend is more flirty with me and that made me

feel kind of uncomfortable but since he was my friend and we talked and joked together

I just started to like him a bit more but I blew it - I didn't take it further and I felt regret! Because

no one knows what could happen later - we just need to take our chance or it might be too late!

Guys and girls can be bestest friends if they aren't attracted to each other, when they are - it gives a bit of an awkward feeling!

im in the exact same situation. you can be friends, but it probably would be awkward. to make it seen less awkward you could flirt with him, but make sure you tell him you don't want to be in a relationship right now. don't lead him on: )

I am friends with a girl and we both like each other. She wants a guy with no life to wait on her hand and foot. That's not me and I don't feel a relationship would ever work out. Even though we are physically attracted to each other, we are just friends.

But if she gave me the opportunity to hook up with her, I doubt I'd pass on it. Intimacy can strengthen a relationship and doesn't always destroy it. Being a person who gives honest advice, I could understand how she is and what he might perceive of her actions if I am aware of her bedroom scene.

Since most of you have no idea, I don't sleep with just anyone. There has to be an emotional connection and I have turned down women. I'm sure women are hurt but no reason to get pissed about it.

yeah...you can be friends if you really want to. It's not awkward...me and this girl I met at school like each other but were too different...I am in the military and I go to college, and she really has no motivation or ambition in life and that's not for me so that's why were just friends.
