I've been taking a dance class for two months now and one of the instructors has interacted with me in mostly a serious way. But this passed week he first asked me if I thought he was funnier than one of the other instructors and about 30 seconds later asked, "have I told you you're my favorite student?" He said both playfully, but I'm uncertain if that was him trying to be funny or flirt with me. We danced together and then afterwards he gave me a hug and he hasn't given one before (hugging partners after a dance is normal), andI was OK with it.

I can only assume so but it’s hard to tell if you’re interested tell him and ask him if he was. If you’re feeling uncomfortable then just find someone new for dance classes.
People are hard to read because every person is their own individual so being direct is the best way to go and if someone cannot be direct then the ball is in their court.
Yeah he is and he's testing the waters before making his move. Just out of curiosity what type of dance does he teach
It's brazilian zouk
Sorry for the late response had to google that dance looks fun looks a lot like the hustle
It's definitely fun! If you have classes near you, I think you'd enjoy it.

To me sounds like he’s maybe testing the waters seeing your reaction before making a move.
