intimate hugs? intimate can only mean that you had a hug with someone who is already very close to you... intimate is about closeness, and it can be just an special moment with a friend, a partner, family...

the other version of intimate is more about that hug being more personal as in... more effusive and it's going towards a more sensual or sexual territory, there would be some passion going on, or desire

the rest is situational and depending on other circumstances and the context as well

Its a great question , as it comes down to this hugs definition , to be truly intimate I think it includes a passionate french style kiss , which obviously adds a great deal to the definition of this intimate hug , so I think its possible that it can say a great deal , and I also think it can mean little , so it all comes back to the situation , I think we all know that moment.

Hugs can be intimate if they’re with a person you like romantically. Or they can be intimate just between friends (intimate doesn’t always imply sexual).

I find front hugs with a female friend confusing. A female work colleague returned to the office after a period of ill-health. She greeted me with a front wrap around hug bordering on intimate. I am glad she initiated it because if it came from me I am sure it could have been misconstrued.

All hugs are intimate in some way to me. But it doesn't mean intimate in a sexual way. I really like hugs because I feel like I can convey my affection for a person that maybe I can't always express perfectly in words in that way. Not every person has to be a romantic partner or a friend for life but we can still like them :)

My mother always taught me to not hug people too long especially guys. When I was first dating my husband I figured out why. I'm only small and he is so tall, I was giving him the biggest hug and I felt him poking me in the stomach. Of course I pretended I couldn't feel it and I had a very satisfied look on my face.
