Do people who have initial crushes, then try to avoid interactions with their crushes?

Going to use fake names. Yes, I did actual do this. Had a crush on a customer Matt in my work. Matt would talk with me whilst I rung out his items. We would laugh, and share about everyday life. Then there was customer John whom I had known longer. I thought of john just as a kind, caring customer who looked out for me. He was handsome, and respectful. Yet, I do not recollect having an actual crush on John. I was simply thankful for his caring kindness. Though, Matt I definitely had a crush on. Then one day John asked for my number wanting to talk outside of my work. (He is now my boyfriend) I was always grateful for John looking out for me with the shady customers. After talking for a bit, john made it clear what his intentions were. I realized I wanted to spend more time with him. Then Matt kept coming in, and talking with with me. I avoided any sort of crush I had on Matt in the past. I avoided giving any indication that I was ever interested.

Intriguing, did John ever get told this story? Or Matt? Did John appreciate you more than Matt? I am the opposite. I always hope a situation has to bring us together😆 I don't know of a lot of guys who try to avoid their crushes, I'm sure they exist, but throughout my life it has largely been women who get geeky and shy about being near their crush.
