Notice that you've subconsciously picked romancing him as the "satisfactoion mechanism" for these needs. that can help you rationalize your feelings and in consequence that may help getting over it or redirecting these feelings towards someone or something more appropriate to fullfill that desire or to delay the satisfaction of your needs till someone more fitting is found.

As the chick that always uses italics implied, you can't control your feelings. There is nothing to do with them. If you want to be friends with the person just don't do more than friend things. Just because you find someone very appealing doesn't mean you have to have sex with them. If you don't have the self control to not have sex with them... you kind of have a bigger problem, but if it is super important to you not to have sex with them, such as already being in a relationship, then you have to just stop interacting with the person. That, or make sure you only interact with the person when your partner is also with you. That way you can't cheat.

I think that happens all the time naturally.

The time my current boyfriend and I first met was on our orientation day at University, and I was trying to flirt with someone else first, but he swooped in and stole the guy away (we're all close friends now). But I had no intentions on being with him initially. Its just funny how things work out. :)
