When a guy calls you “cute”, is that a real compliment?

I met this guy on this app called hush which is a anonymous chat app and I matched with this guy who had a very $3Xualy direct profile so when he asked to see me, I sent a bikini shot without my face, he said I was a baddie and then he wanted to see my face which I was nervous about because I never really show my face on the web and I don’t get many compliments irl but he was hot so I sent a selfie anyway and he said I was cute… and that sounds like a nice compliment but I’ve heard it’s just a backhanded compliment that a guys says because you’re not pretty or beautiful enough to actually be called “pretty” or “beautiful”.

And even further, he’s not the best texter. He says he’s working a lot, but I’ve had other people text me while they were working so I don’t know if he’s all that interested in me.

and to end this, how do you know if you’re actually beautiful if nobody tells you is it that people are too nervous to tell you? or am I actually grotesque?
