LIsten to what others say and keep it in the back of your mind. Maybe he's so nice to you because he wants something from you. That doesn't mean just drop him, but keep your eyes open and you'll see if he really is a douche and everyone is right, or if they got the wrong idea. 9 times out of 10 if you hear the same thing about someone from multiple sources there's a bit of truth to it at least. Use your head on this one. Everyone who's nice to you isn't always nice
If you have seen evidence or know for a fact that he is then why bother. Why would you bother with someone who is only nice to you because you have yet to tell him you like him. Sounds like he is only after you because he has yet to have you. Well I don't know the whole back story but still if everyone says he is they can't all just hate him for no reason.
Yes. It's likely he's playing to see how long it takes to win you over. Hot guys "collect" as much attention as possible. Find a guy who is less attractive and less funny, as he is less likely to screw you over. Guys are only as kind as their options.
If your friends and people are telling you he's bad news, you need to stay away from him. It sounds like he could like you but if he's a douche to your friends and others, why be with a guy like that?

I have a friend and most of my friends think he is an a-hole. Like you, he isn't that way with me at all. We get along very well, we laugh all the time and are very close. Sometimes I see this side of him come out but no one is perfect. My advice to you is to judge for yourself but also keep your guard up too.
If he really is a douche bag to everyone else then it is only a matter of time before he starts treating you that way. You have two questions to ask yourself. 1) Are people making this up for whatever reason or is he really a jerk to others? 2) If he is a jerk to other people, do you really want to fall for the person he is pretending to be only to have him be a jerk later?
