He says he likes me but isn't ready for relationship...does that make sense?

Been hanging out for a month, and he acts like he's really into me because he texts and calls almost everyday and he's always around...but I've been confused because he hasn't asked me out on a real date. He told me the other day that he was hurt real badly by his ex girlfriend leaving him (which was almost a year ago), and he isn't totally over it. He told me several times that he likes me a lot and he could see himself with me in the long-run...but right now he isn't ready for a relationship. Does this make sense from a guy's perspective? I have a gut feeling he was being sincere, because he really is a nice guy. But I also think that if a guy really is into a girl, he will automatically be ready and available for a relationship. I guess my real question is: is his explanation possibly true, or is he just not into me? And if he's not into me, then why does he hang around me? (we don't hook up.)

He likes you enough that he wants to talk to you but he doesn't like you enough to make you his woman. jmo you're wasting your time with this guy. he's told you he's not serious about you if you continue to hang around now you're just kidding yourself. Tell him that you ARE ready for a relationship and that you understand he isn't and that it's been nice spending time with him but you need to move on and find someone who's ready to have the type relationship you're looking for...and then do that. maybe he needs a kick in the ass to put himself out there again or maybe he's using you as a crutch so he doesn't have to?

only one way to find out at this point...cut him loose and see what happens.

You are right...I had a talk with him and he said he understands that I'm looking for a serious relationship and he just can't do that right now. But since then he's been contacting me everyday as if we're best friends. Should I stop texting him back? Or do you think I should be friendly?

sure as long as you don't let his semi game playing keep you from having a romantic relationship with someone else. I mean if you're a crutch for him he isn't going to like you giving all your time and attention to someone else. Don't misinterpret that as jealousy that he wants you though unless he actually comes out and says it himself. If you can continue to be friendly with him that's great but don't give him so much of your time and energy save it for someone who is ready for a relationship.

Sounds like a player - sorry. Ex girlfriend excuse as being hurt, a year later if he isn ready for a rship with you,thats an excuse, why waste time on someone who doesn't see you worth falling in love with even if he got hurt, which could be sob story if he doesn't even ask you on a date and tells you he doesn't ant a rship, move on.

Dont spend time with him anymore or bother contacting him, enjoy your life and meet new guys - if he's that serious he will be begging to ask you out in no time and if he doesn't then there is your answer and no loss for you as your moving on.
