Is he confused about what he wants or just doesn’t like me?



So, my one guy friend is saying that he only likes me as a friend, and has no feelings for me, which is fine. I can’t change that, but I’m confused, and feel like it doesn’t add up. I just don’t understand why he’d invite me out to a movie and dinner multiple times (what guy friend would do that, unless they were interested), call me cute multiple times, sext me, say he’d never let me down, say that seeing me helped calm him down, saying that he loves talking to me all of the time, invited me to all of his games. I mean, I doubt he’s a player, he doesn’t strike me as that at all. Me and him never hanged out, but it always seemed like he wanted to, I don’t know if he’s scared, or just doesn’t want a relationship. He told me that he has trouble opening up from the past, and said that he hasn’t been in a relationship for 2 years. I know I can’t change his answer, I’m just lost at what the hell his deal is. He seems a bit emotionally immature too.
Two days after sexting, he asked me if I trust him. I don’t know why. Then like a week and half ago, we were talking about hanging out, then he was like, “Why’s it so crucial that we hang out if we’re just friends?” It was like he wanted me to admit that I liked him. I remember I asked him if he liked me back in the beginning of Feb, then he said that he does, but just as a friend rn because he just wants to be friends with people and see what’s out there. Then a couple weeks later he was talking about wanting to take some girl to a basketball game. I said to him, “I thought you just wanted to be friends with people.” Then he said, “Yeah, some people 😂” And his behavior is very wish washy. Like sometimes he’s sweet to me, and sometimes he can be rude, and he wasn’t always rude. He definitely finds me cute, and after seeing me in person, it’s like he becomes sweet, and smitten towards me. We’re both young, and we haven’t hanged out in person yet, sadly. I went to some of his games, but he never makes official plans to hang.

And the weird thing is, he deleted a picture of himself from our chat from 3 months ago yesterday. And denied doing it, and I don’t know why.
