Bantering and teasing girls. When to do it and when to tone it down?

I like teasing and bantering and it's so much better when the girl does it back to me. But sometimes it COULD be seen as being mean. But that's my humor and I think I'm never mean to the girl I like.

Anyone have advice as to whether I should just tone it down? Or not tease like this over text?

If you want to attract and flirt with a girl you don't want to tease her too much or she WILL think you are a jerk. If she's dishing it back to you, great! You can be fun and playful, but you want to connect with her emotions as well. If you're ONLY funny, you can end up as the "funny" guy. You don't want her to think you are a TOTAL Goofball! So you can be funny, then be normal for a while. Ask her some questions about herself. Almost everyone's favorite topic is ME! When she is talking, REALLY listen to her. Look in her eyes and respond to what she's saying. Work on being totally present. Focus on her because she deserves your attention.

I agree with whateveryone's written- basically, everyone's different, be yourself, and when she stops engaging, is reoccupied or shows annoyance, stop .

I will add : tone and humor are easily misinterpretted over text .

It's difficult just posting online in general, no matter how explanatory One may try to be...and of course, if the joke needs to be explained, it's no longer funny or the person just did not share your humor ;)

The only time you should consider toning it down is if you know it's a sensitive subject for her or you're picking up that she's in a bad mood. I've always been fine with bantering and teasing with guys. However, those are usually the times it may bother me some.

If you're teasing over text, sometimes it can get lost in translation. It can be hard to convey teasing/bantering via text.

DO it after you get to know the chick and she gets to know you.

DO IT on the first date

DON'T when you are in front of her parents

DO IT when you are with her friends

DO IT when she's breaking up with you

DO IT when she has a piece of food on her lip and you want to make fun of her

DON'T when she bombs an exam

DO IT when on a fun filled activity

DON'T when she's in a hospital visiting a dying friend

I tease girls all the time, and one of my requirements that I look for in a girl is a sense of humor, and one who isn't afraid to give me a hard time back, she has to tease me as well! It really depends on how you feel about the subject. If its something touchy or something she is bothered with, such as Shazam's example, its best not to tease her about it. For the most part though, teasing with girls is awesome! As guy's, we have to cultivate the feeling of when its too much.

I do love a teasing banter but sometimes I'll just not be in the mood- that would be when you tone it down. If you see a girl's reacting badly to it, even if she usually likes it, you should just stop there. I think teasing is fine - just make sure she realizes exactly what it is. Adding text smilies or wink faces always helps to convey the fact that you're joking, if you think she might take something the wrong way.

My last boyfriend was like that and we got on amazingly, messing around and generally being mean to each other was what we did! Lol

The guy before that was lovely and sweet all the time.. He couldn't take jokes without just saying "aww you're so cheeky" and hugging me. Bugged the life out of me.

Teasing is basically playful disinterest. You gotta balance between disinterest and interest. Intuition will tell you when you need to pull her back with interest after pushing her away too much with disinterest.

You know what girls like more than being playfully teased? (Well this is at least what I absolutely love when my crush treats me like this, but every girl is different) They (or maybe just I) love to be treated by you differently. You may insult or compare another girl, saying the other girl is not as good as her at something. Or if you guys decide to do something together as a group with teams needed, suggest to her she should be on your team because she's so good at whatever it is that your doing.
