Pro: You get it over with. You may find that he likes you.
Con: You may not realize that you won't be able to handle it if he says that he doesn't like you. It's more of an ego blow than you might anticipate, even if you were sure you could handle it. If you're feeling sort of anxious to tell him because you can't keep it inside of you anymore, do not tell him. There are few circumstances where it will end well. If he likes you, he will find a way to let you know. If he hasn't done that, it most likely won't end well.
Hints: Ask him to hang out in a group of friends. Wink at him and see how he reacts next time he talks to you (this one is tricky and can look like a mere eye spasm if you're not careful lol). Eye flirt with him across the room. Playfully tell him (in person) that one of your friends have the biggest crush on him, and where he takes it. Playfully discuss the fact that he probably has a million girls daydreaming about him, because he's so [insert compliment]. If he wants something from you (like a pencil), say he has to tell you how much he likes you first. Basically, as long as you keep things light, playful, and flirty, you're on the road to 1) getting him to like you and 2) seeing how much he likes you.
1) You find out if it's pointless or not. If not, date. If it is, then get over it.
2) Swallow your fear and just tell them.
3) Hinting is a complete and total waste of everyones time.
Pros is you'll not be wasting anymore time.
Con is you might be rejected.
