Why do some women think it is ok to be physical and hit men but don't think it is ok for men to do the same thing to women?

I personally don't think anyone should be getting violent. I saw a tv show the other day where this woman was smacking this guy in the back smacking him in the head saying "Get out! Get out! " He was trying to protect himself. He turned around and put his hand up to block her smacking. As his hand went up it struck the woman in the face. She went tumbling to the ground and started crying like he was abusing her.

What's the deal?

See, I agree with you, but I understand that society thinks it's cute and funny slight arm punch from the woman.

I think some of it is PERCEIVED strength. "A man has more upper body strength so any hit = pain = abuse. A woman has less upper body strength, so any hit = "a slight tap"'

To me, seeing a dude get kicked in the crotch generally isn't funny (unless he's really asking for it). I see all kinds of women laughing about it on the home video shows. But I'll bet that if I told a PMS joke, any guy who would laugh would be sleeping on the couch.

Then again, I don't find bleeding and cramps funny, either. I figure if a woman doesn't laugh at me getting hit, I won't do it to her.

But it's a messed up society, not that this is a good excuse or reason.

It's one of those weird convoluted standards. I think a lot of it is the notion that women are smaller and can't hit as hard, and then there's the whole confusion that stems from hitting kids. Mostly, though, I think it's one of those things that most folks, male and female, don't approve of. The ones who don't see it that way are abnormal.

I don't agree with it. I've seen women hit men first many times and I think they deserve to be hit back. You can't have gender equality when it suits you. If you hit someone you should get what's coming to you. I don't believe all men are stronger than all women either. If Laila Ali were to strike some 5'2 130 lb. Guy, homeboy is going to get hurt! Even if the woman is small, she shouldn't have hit the guy in the first place if she didn't expect to get hit in return. If a really petite guy were to hit some Rick Ross looking dude, nobody would get mad at the big guy for hitting him back because he's small!

Societal roles portray women as weak and fragile while men are tough and can deal with the pain. I would say on average it is true that women are not as strong as men so their hits hurt less but that doesn't give anyone an excuse to be violent.

If men are looking for a way around 'abusing' a women yet getting them to stop abusing you then try to grab a hold of their wrists if they're punching you and hold them down. It doesn't have the same negative connotation as hitting back but has the same result plus the added bonus of establishing dominance.

I'm sure if I hit you with all my strength it wouldn't hurt nearly as much as if you hit me with all your strength. Basically MOST men are stronger than MOST women. Not all but most. I mess around with guys and hit them all the time but if they can't take me hitting them they are pretty weak in my opinion.

And if she was screaming at him to get out why didn't he just leave? I doubt she was crying because she was thinking "Oh no I just got abused" it was probably because being hit by him hurt a lot.

Me and boyfriend stick to wrestling only. This way their are no excuses when I or he wins and I beat most of the time and he is bigger than me but not aggressive or that strong. I don't see any shame of a guy being physically weaker to women because some women know judo or how to wrestle and are just stronger these days

I don't approve of hitting unless the person has a fetish and requests it. But I don't like to hit or be hit.

That's what I'm saying. Earlier this year there was one of my female friends who called one of my male friends a bastard and then the next day he calls her a bitch and gets his face slapped? Through my laughter I was think that if he were to hit her back then there would be a whole debacle and he would either get suspended or, knowing my school, expelled. If women want to be equal to men then they should start acting more civil and stop attacking men(no offense to the women that don't attack men).

Guys are generally bigger and stronger than women, so its never a good idea to get physical (as in hit) them. Besides, what kind of gentleman does that?

Nobody should be hitting anyone. There's one thing that doesn't discriminate, it's the law. You can charge someone for assault and battery weather the person doing the hitting is a man or a woman. It'a against the law.
