No. They chose to wear skimpy clothing. They did not agree to have men grab their ass or say horrible things to them (I've read these stories from old waitresses who worked at Hooters). I personally find the clothing really tacky and demeaning. I'll be the first to admit that I judge the women who work there, but that doesn't give a green light to be harassed. It's the same logic as blaming a women for how she is dressed when she is raped.

@linadagoddess I don't agree with you, with that you're saying if you're are dressed in something similar, ex: shorts over bikini bottoms and just the bikini top and I see you in public, does that give me the right to be handsy, sexually explicit, perverted or rude? It's a public venue, even if they are dressed that way, you should be respectful. I said should be, I know guys will go overboard when their with their buddies and drinking. You go to the beach to enjoy the water and the waves, etc… you’re going to hooters to eat.. if you’re a server, you entertain.. you make your tips by entertaining the guests… what type of entertainment are you talking about? Those are literally two different situations and scenarios. You're correct, I should've reread that before I posted it. But you still got the point I was making. Yes Hooters should have put down a policy or rules to reduce the harassment and rude behavior. But I was raised to treat women better than that, no matter what setting you encounter them. I am the same way at the strip club. If I'm getting a dance, I'm not trying to put my finger in her, or my tongue or biting her, I'm not talking shit, I'm letting her do her job. The better you treat someone when their doing something for you, the better they will serve you. And yes it does work at the strip club, it's like their shocked that you're not an ass and then reward you for it. I've been taken to breakfast afterwards, given special treatment on return visits.

I think hooters is fine, I’ve been there before with family. It’s just the creepy male ceo, the hooters girls are put up to strict standards. I think I was only in there once.
The food was mediocre at best.
The girls were not all that great that would of made me want to come back.
And it wasn't like you would of ever hooked up with one of them, kind of like being in a bad strip club where they don't take anything off.

I think the option is good, at the end of the day it’s a business like any other and they are trying to make the waitresses more like bottle girls. It’s a superficial business I might add just like modeling so I find it odd girls will try to sue, even tho it may not feel fair it’s just that level of superficiality which the public does buy into or they wouldn’t be up and running. Forcing women to wear a thong to keep there job is wrong and a bad way of going about changing uniforms obviously.

I worked at Hooters years ago. I was always aware if there was a group of guys sitting together or if there was a family together. I treated one group a lot different than the others. That is part of being a waitress. You have to know your customers/clients. It is certainly not a strip club, but can be a place for single guys to have a good time, or it can be a place for a family to have a meal. Just my opinion having worked there.

I'm all for the employees being empowered to make decisions they feel is best for themselves. As long as they're not enslaved by their employers and have the option to work there or find another job or career, I don't see the wrong in this.

That radical a change in uniform, accompanied by the phrase "they can find employment elsewhere" is textbook Constructive Dismissal - the creation of an environment where the employee is being treated so badly that they resign having done nothing to warrant dismissal according to the original contract of employment they entered into when starting work.

There are many legal precedent cases on file with extremely large compensation awards made.

I think that dismissal would work well if there were only a few outliers in the company or at Hooters in small towns where jobs are scarce, but you're talking about an all female staff across the country who are essentially being forced to wear this vs male company heads who have made it quite clear, they are objectifying women without legally saying that. I definitely think had this gone further, the staff would have had a case UNLESS there is some fine fine print somewhere that they've signed on contract where they agree to where whatever.

Funnily enough, a few men sued Hooters (they settled out of court) arguing that legally, the company was discriminating against them by refusing to hire men (Hooters has since only agreed to hire men in support positions), but part of Hooters campaign against this was dressing up beefy men in their uniform and blonde wigs and basically saying, "no one wants to see this, stay out of our business Washington."

Personally I think the old design at least looked cuter.

Actually, it is. I briefly worked at a Hooters restaurant long ago. There were kids there and they loved the food. As long as nobody gives anybody malicious ideas, it can be a "family friendly" environment.

I had friends who worked for hooters, and they were good looking. You don't even have to be 9/10 material, 7/10+ it always feels like.

Food is just okay but they have menu items consistently change and some that you just wouldn't find at many restaurants like cuban sandwiches, so that's another reason why they had been around for so long.

The dress code adaptation did go a bit far, it's not like they were struggling for business.
