I eat it anyway, but then when I pay I tell if something was wrong. As well as, I give compliments too.
But I do it only in my country (Italy), now I live in northern Europe and the awareness about food is way lower, so I take in account the context and I don't complain here. I ate the worst pasta I ever seen (or even imagined) in my whole life in France, I couldn't even conceive a thing like that in a nightmare I guess, so I've eaten it just in part (it was honestly too much disgusting to continue), I asked to the guy with me, he said that was a normal pasta (!!!) and he finished it for me (superpowers I guess). I paid like if everything was ok. So yeah uhm, I just say nothing in northern Europe, I just avoid too bad places the next times, but I don't say anything, not even in the reviews online. It wouldn't improve their service if clients expect things like that, it would just sound like snobbish without a purpose... While instead I tell compliments freely.

If there was a hair in it, or it was frozen/under-cooked, or something like that, I'd want my money back. But even then, it's not okay to berate the employees, and I have better things to do than write a petty review on Yelp. I'd just want my money back. No need to cause a scene. That said, if it's bad enough to make me ask for my money back, it's also bad enough for me not to go to that restaurant again.

But if it just wasn't what I was expecting, or I didn't particularly like the taste, that's no reason to complain. I just wouldn't order it again.

It depends on how bad. If it's a hair or unreasonably sized portion no. But noticeably undercooked or tastes funny than yes.

I voted other because it depends whether its due to neglect by workers not doing their job properly or whether its due to me being culturally different from the chef that might have prepared foods for a different cultural demographic - like let's say you prefer odourless cheese in your pasta and the Italian restaurant put cheese in your food that had a strong smell - not the chef's fault - you just didn't know what you were buying when you asked for the dish. I would not complain. But if I ask for medium rare and they make well done - I can complain cause they did not do what I asked.

If it’s exceptionally bad then i will. I usually don’t though I just won’t go back. I am more likely to complain about the service than the food. I went to inside health in Paris today and literally the lady told me no when I walked in. No explanation just a no. It was insane. I should complain

Used to just grin and bear it, didn’t want to appear mean or rock the apple cart. Then I learned it’s a common occurrence and my feedback is actually helpful. A good manager will like it because then they can track down the source of the problem quicker and avoid other people from having to eat bad food. So now I always say something for myself and also defend others in my party. Not in a disrespectful way.

Yes, but I also compliment when it's good, and on several occasions, I've asked my server to bring the manager over so that I could compliment the server to the manager. in my opinion, you can't JUST complain when things are wrong, you have to recognize when things go right too.

Politely, but definitely.

Worst was ordering fettuccini alfredo and receiving it smothered in at least 4tbs of olive oil. That was disgusting.

The owner of the restaurant was appalled. I think she got more upset than I did. Could hear her screaming at the chef for making her new restaurant look bad for fucking up such a simple dish.

If it was bad, I just set it to the side of the table and not touch it. It's only happened a few times, but I have seen what the kitchen staff does to food that gets sent back, it's not a myth. Waiter usually comments asking if I want something else or to have it fixed. I just ask for it to be taken off the bill.

I work in a restaurant. Only if it is wrong will I send it back. If I order something and I just don't like it I will suck it up and eat it, or drink it, but if I just don't like it, I ordered it, im gonna consume it

If I didn’t like it, no but if it was made incorrectly then yes probably. I think last time I complained about food at a restaurant was years ago because the spare ribs I had tasted old like they had them stored for a long time.

I grew up in Brooklyn NYC, there were tons of mom and pop shops in my neighborhood, if they didn't serve good food I would just bash their reputation  I would recommend an improvement
