Can you imagine a world without spices?

Of course spices have been around in Asia for a very long time. But it wasn't until globalization started, that European powers now have access to what was once considered a mass luxury. Of course, saffron is still considered to be very expensive (can be up to 5000$ a pound). There was a time were nearly all spices were only affordable by the middle class and aristocracy.

here so people dont have to click on a link. It mostly added a color, and a little flavor that I can still kind of remember. But its hard to think back because it was so many months ago, and I've only used it once.

If we weren't introduced to spices, we probably wouldn't have ending up treasuring food the way we do in the western world. We wouldn't have said food is art and culture. It would just be sustenance. Probably wouldn't have meal times, since meal times are for social reasons, not for the sake of consuming food. You wouldn't really be able to say "look what I made". You wouldn't really need to learn how to cook. Just make sure the bird meat isn't red. Since the main purpose of spices was to preserve food, we'd probably wouldn't have been as advanced as we are. We'd probably get here eventually, but the need to transport and store spices sparked inventions which later sparks more inventions which would spark industrial movements and modernization. So, I can imagine a world without spices, and it's very dark and boring.

Haha but on a serious note, every meal I have involves spices, except breakfast maybe sometimes but I don't think I've ever had a spice less lunch and dinner. Unless I'm having junk food for lunch and dinner which is very rare.
