Of course spices have been around in Asia for a very long time. But it wasn't until globalization started, that European powers now have access to what was once considered a mass luxury. Of course, saffron is still considered to be very expensive (can be up to 5000$ a pound). There was a time were nearly all spices were only affordable by the middle class and aristocracy.

here so people dont have to click on a link. It mostly added a color, and a little flavor that I can still kind of remember. But its hard to think back because it was so many months ago, and I've only used it once.
