But I guess if mouse exists for real, then it's the more glamorous of the two and just sounds more cleaner than rat simply because rat is more associated with sewer

Most main-stream pet food is made from parts of animals that we're already slaughtering for human consumption, but parts that we don't normally eat ourselves. Those parts would otherwise be discarded, so being able to use them as pet food is being efficient and earth-friendly.

A good question. Offhand, I'd think it's because no one commercially raises rats as a meat source. I'm also not sure how much of a market there'd be; but you could probably sell a certain demographic on it being more natural, since it's what they evolved to eat.

Rats and mouse carry diseases. Unless the company want to infect animals and go bankrupt they wouldn’t do that. Its a very nasty animal. Also not necessary to be in a pets diet. Though some snakes owners have to deal with that and i can guarantee you its a nasty sight to see

I have been asking myself that same question.

I am currently stationed in Kuwait and the bases here have cats that wander around that are supposed to keep the pest populations under control. We aren't supposed to feed them, even though people have, and the cats come crying for food.

Hence, I wondered if feeding them mice, etc... would give them the taste for mice and other rodents.

It might be bad for the cat do yo the amount of preservatives required to keep the food bacteria free and the smell of dead rats might attract living rats into your home.

Maybe it is rat flavored already. Who among us is tasting the cat food to make sure it actually tastes like the flavor on the package? The important thing is that they like to eat it and its healthy.

My cat tells me that the fun with rodents is he gets to chase, torture, and kill them, and he is not so keen on eating them at all. He prefers caviar and smoked salmon.
