Do you know what flavour "Brown sauce" is?

A foreigner was staring confused at a bottle of HP sauce in a supermarket before asked an assistant what flavour it was. "Brown" came the answer. Which leads to this two part question. Without looking at a bottle do you actually know what flavour Brown sauce is and secondly do you actually like the disgusting stuff?

Brown sauce has a similar texture to ketchup, perhaps a little stickier. There's different brands but they're usually labelled "brown sauce". Mostly their used to dip your sausage in at breakfast and will instantly kill the taste of everything on the plate.

OMG. This brings back an experience I had in England. I went into a restaurant for some lunch one afternoon and ordered a salad. The waitress brought a 1/4 head of lettuce on a plate. I looked at it in disbelief. When I called her back and asked if they had any salad dressing, she looked totally confused. I finally said "You know, dressing. Sauce for salad?" Then the light bulb went off above her head and she said "Oh, you want sauces" in an English accent.

She returned with a metal caddy that had packets of ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and "brown sauce".

I stared at it in disbelief. Brown sauce sounded like gravy. So I tried mixing ketchup and mayonnaise together. The salad was very unsatisfying. Afterwards, as I sat there waiting for the check, I opened a packet of brown sauce and tasted it. It tasted a bit like French dressing.

I obeyed the rules of this question and didn't look at a bottle. But I did look online:

The ingredients include a varying combination of tomatoes, molasses, dates, apples, tamarind, spices, vinegar, and sometimes raisins. The taste is either tart or sweet with a peppery taste similar to that of Worcestershire sauce.

A.1. Sauce is considered a "brown sauce." And it is described as a "steak sauce":

I like A.1. but it is a polarizing sauce. As I child, I would get scolded by my stepdad for dipping steak into A.1. Sauce. I'm not sure why. I mean why was it in our refrigerator if it was so shameful a sauce? Also, who would care besides me what flavors my tongue was subjected to? I didn't dip his steak in the fucking sauce. It's a strange thing to get pissed off about.

I'm not sure I want to know I mean I make all my own sauces I don't know about buying a sauce in a bottle you would think that it would be beef but it's not like a broth is it that you're talking about yes I'm not really for sure what you're talking about cuz I never seen the sauce barbecue sauce I've seen Worcestershire sauce I've seen but I think that's about it

mole sauce (over here) is brown... and the flavour is... mole sauce, lol

although, it can have anything from 12 to 28 different ingredients, and it can also be red, yellow, green, black and much more...

Not disgusting at all, best with a roll and square sausage with a dollop of hp sauce.
It tastes fruity and spicy at same time. Unique taste but again great with rolls and sausage

I'm not a fan of it or Worcester sauce unless the flavour is hidden in a recipe. I believe both are made from fermented compost.

Worcestershire sauce is a made from fermented fish. I'm referring to what's sold as "brown sauce"

It's nothing like bbq sauce or soy, it's a fruity slightly spicy sauce that people use to eat breakfast with, esp sausages
