If you mean an open fire, I'll say stove. A stove is more consistent with its temperature, which yields more consistent results. However, in the case of a wood stove with an oven, I have always heard about how much better the food tastes when baked in that kind of oven. Same for a wood-fired pizza oven. I intend to do homesteading someday, so once I have my wood stove I'll find out for myself.

Open flame cooking is definitely gooder, preferably wood or charcoal. Gas grills are good too though.

I’ve never had food cooked over a fire except on vacation and at speciality restaurants or at a BBQ and I think barbecue skewers taste better than stove cooked meals but that might be due to the marinade rather than the stove.
