I'm not a doctor. All of the following has been the result of what I was able to found online after some months of "research".
Plant based food contains:
- Carbohydrates that rise your insulin resulting in tons of problems (like high blood pressure, developing diabetes type 2, lowering longevity (which is what you asked funny enough), etc.). Carbohydrates are also the food source that cancer eats from. It cannot eat fad. So the whole "read meat causes cancer" is a BULLSHIT I still refuse to believe (and there aren't any true evidence to believe it anyways).
- Fiber (which is a type of carbohydrate) which cannot be broken down from your body, absorbs water and gets bigger resulting in bloating and gut problems
- Lectins
https://www.youtube.com/embed/RmGXpjEhnLI- Oxalates
Animal based food contains:
- Higher quality protein including every amino acid your body needs and cannot create.
- Essential fatty acids that are... well, essential to your body!
- Better nutrient profile with more vitamins and minerals.
- Fish contain heavy minerals which are dangerous for our body and if you want to eat them in a daily basis, you have to eat the fish that contain the less (maybe top 5 with the less amount of them).
Do the math! I used to be the "healthy plant" eater. Now, I hate them and only add some of them in the food for the taste. I love my food now and I feel much healthier and happier!
There are some large scale correlational studies like the EPIC study and the NHS nurse's study, but they do rely largely on self-reporting questionnaires which aren't the gold standard for clinical reliability. I've seen some mechanistic studies come out about how specific plant foods may have longevity-promoting benefits, but relatively speaking nutrition science is in its infancy compared to established hard sciences like biology or pharmacology. Its also harder for researchers to get the mechanistic nutrition studies funded because the big money is in pharmaceuticals which may be directly undermined by people becoming more knowledgeable on cutting edge nutrition science. There's no millions to be made in brocoli, but there's billions to be made in animal agriculture subsidies and pharmacological interventions sold at mark-up. So it's hard to parse the data from the hype when economic forces effectively require nutrition research to be actively suppressed. What we do know is that eating more plants can only offer more health benefits, whereas eating more meat and dairy only comes with more disclaimers and asterisks abd dubious funding sources for the studies that support their consumption. (fyi I'm still an "omnivore" not a vegan, but the science gets tricky when you realise the meat industry stands to lose more from publicly available nutrition research than the green smoothies industry.
I don't know, but many large population studies have found that vegetarians and vegans live longer than meat eaters and have lower risks of cancer, heart attacks, and other chronic degenerative diseases.
I'm not an expert, but come to think of it a whole foods plant based diet seems to be healthiest as you get far more minerals, nutrients, and vitamins than meat eaters while avoiding cholesterol and high amounts of saturated fat. Also, supplements are no match for actually eating the fruits, vegetables, and legumes that naturally carry them.
Of course exercise is vital too, but isn't a cure-all for bad eating habits.
I don’t think it’s as basic as vegan/meat eater…I think people who eat healthier and live a healthier lifestyle live longer. This can often end up being the vegan as they focus more on diet and nutrition generally. Meat eaters account for a huge percentage of the population including those who live on junk food, fried foods, eat no vegetables or fruits, etc.
You can eat healthy balanced meals whether you are a vegan or meat eater, so those who do this will live longer than those vegans or meat eaters who don’t and just eat junk with no nutritional value (again, generally)

Basically yes but most of the factor to that is due to Red meat. If you just eat chicken of fish you are very unlikely to get cancer unlike cows or pigs.
Milk is also only really health until your 20s and even before that people show rejection to it because we are all kinda lactose intolerant with only other factors that make people more visibly so.
So if your a person who likes milkshakes and steak with a side of bacon you will for sure be dead before someone having a veggie burger with a smoothie.
So as you can see if meat eaters actually balanced what they eat it wouldn't be much difference but because they don't red meat is a leading cause for cancer.
What's exactly the proof that read meat causes cancer? What is exactly in this type of meat that isn't in the other meat that causes cancer? Are there any REAL proof?
LMAO! Can't you support a claim and provide info? "Go look it up doesn't say a lot?" Can't you at least give a source to your favorite "research"? That says a lot about your claim...

There is a thing called google you should learn how to use it and study into these things yourself. You shouldn't need someone else to send you links to basic facts. And then when you decide to reject these anyway and come up with some bullshit you are just wasting my time.
I had a grandmother that made it to 101 and my grandfather made it to 96. They cooked an entire turkeys, chickens, hams, roasts etc. on a regular basis. Veggies were a part of the meal, but there was always a central coarse of meat. It was a core part of their diet. They cut back on beef and ate more poultry as they got older. My other grandmother made it to 96 also and she fucking hated vegetables. You couldn’t get her to eat them for anything. Her diet was mostly meat and grains/bread. She also ate a lot of sweets. She loved her processed foods like cake, donuts, cookies, candy, etc. and she drank soda regularly.
Damn. She had a body of steel! Lucky her. Lucky granddad too!
@TenderFantasy It's mainly about having a positive outlook. If you don't take yourself too seriously, have a good sense of humor, and don't let the stress get to you then you tend to live a long time. Optimism can carry you through a lot. That and staying active. You have to have something to live for and get your exercise every day doing something you like such as gardening and talk to people and do things. Stress is a killer.
Hmm that IS crazy. And you're right. You gotta take care of BOTH your mental just not physical health.
I think though that stress can be a good motivator, in the right doses, but too much of it, especially trauma (of the mental kind where you don't have mental peace) is the one that's a true killer.
@TenderFantasy I don't care if people disagree with my personal opinions. I'm blunt and people often can't cope. It's just odd that they'd get mad over a truthful stories about dead family members. There's nothing to even disagree with.
A lot of myths and bullshit peddling on this thread.
In reality, there's just too many variables. You can be healthy and unhealthy eating plant based and eating meat.
I eat plant based, and always get told I look 5-10 years younger than I am.
However, I still eat some animal foods.
I definitely think animal foods are bad for you in quantity. What's the evidence for that? Just look at the population. We're scientifically 'advanced' and yet half the population will get cancer and most seem to be half dead by the time they're 50. This is not a good advocate for meat eating or typical Western diets. There's too many myths around carbs too. Anyone who can't differentiate between complex and highly processed carbs (see @yourfavoritefriend) shouldn't be talking about this matter, either. There's nothing that gets my goat more than people talk shit about carbs.
No. Not even close.
Of the known people who have lived past 100, and lived medically "healthy," lives, only 4 were vegetarian. Not even Vegans.
Vegans are among the most unhealthy and risky prone people. Not only because of the mostly ultra processed shit they eat. But it's food laden with carcinogenic preservative. Also, most of the plant matter they consume is GM and dubious nutritional quality. It's basically "artificial food" by another name.
It looks like the "vegan" craze will be the new "smoking". We won't be shown the science and real damage to health it did, until 30-40 years time, like was the case with tobacco.
I’m against Genetically Mutated Organisms (GMO). Organic fruits are the best.
1. I never knew anybody who claimed to be a veagan who wasn't sneaking meat sauces & even full meat dishes when they thought nobody knew OR they think you won't judge them for it.
2. I also never knew a person like this who bothered to study nutrition and be smart about what they eat so they end up having some kind of nutritional deficiencies. For example I knew this guy who ONLY ate cabbage. His hands turned orange but he thought everything was fine. Oh, he also would drink several liters of soda per day. Do the math on that.
Yeah…I know a few of those.
Those sneaky ‘vegans’ ain’t true vegans. I am. The cabbage guy is malnourished. Cabbage is not a fruit.
In caveman days we were made to eat mostly meat with veggies filling in. The men would go hunt for some big water buffalo or something from the Flintstones and the women would cook it up and make it last all winter. I think what shortens people's lives now is sugar and simple carbs, which they didn't really have back then.
You are one smart cookie
OMG!!! Someone with a functional brain that things logically in 2022! I don't believe it!!!
Ain’t it the opposite — they usually eat fruits, herbs, roots, seeds, and nuts, and sometimes meat?
No. They probably have less heart disease, but I've never read evidence to support this. A balanced diet, as the body was designed to have, includes portions of all types of food. Many people eat a very unbalanced diet (look at how many men loathe vegetables or survive on fast food), but that doesn't mean an extreme inverse is the ideal. Low fat, low sugar, lean red meat on occasion, has been said to be healthier than removing all animal fat protein.
Not a doctor here. I think vegans and meat eaters will still have the same life expectancy. Food that they eat can cause food poisoning, and meat eaters' foods can also cause food poisoning. I think vegans and meat eaters both are healthy in their own way; we can still get the proper nutrients, vegan or not.
In my opinion I would say no. I think life expectency depends more on genetics, drug and alcohol use etc. I think vegan doesn't = healthy. You can be vegan and eat vegan ice cream and chips, drink coke and be unhealthy. If you eat meat but not excessively and you eat veges and fruit and exercise then that's a healthy lifestyle. It is dependent on more than meat and dairy products.
No. I believe there has to be balance between eating meat and vegetables. Moderation in all things. The Vegans I know struggle to get enough vitamins and proteins and have to eat a ridiculous amount of food. They also suffer from bad breath and b. o.
Someone can't eat meat for 30 to 40 years and then be vegan for a year and truly claim all of their health is from being vegan. From what I have seen at first they get more energy when they switch, but after a while they lose strength and endurance and usually become much weaker physically than they were before.
Really you should be eating both alongside other types of food which I say as a former PT who studied nutrition.
I'll say this I have known very few vegans or vegetarians that either weren't taking obscene amounts of supplements to cover their nutritional gaps or that didn't have nutritional deficiencies from a lack of proper nutrition.
No, Not really.
we need meat to survive but the problem is that today’s meat products aren’t natural and filled with chemicals,
thats why a lot of people are obese with heart problems.
look at the people who live in farms, they are healthy because they eat directly from what they own.
It’s good to eat a balance diet with/out meat. PLUS having a healthy, positive outlook within the self and the world.
I know I come from strong female families. Grandmas, great grandmas lived to their 90s.
I still have to take care of myself. It take life seriously, not get stress over anything.
that’s my secret. It’s out now
NO, this study has been debunked by the same research group that conducted it. They did a follow up study where they realized meat eaters tend to smoke more and exercise less. adjusting for those 2 things all variables of lifespan disappear entirely.
vegans and vegetarians do NOT live longer. old debunked research
I don't know about vegans, but I am a vegetarian and I feel like i barely exist most days. Anyway as for your question, I doubt it, but I am gonna make sure to Google it afterwards out of pure curiosity.
I mean, I will say this- thanks to the picture-
veggies absorb more water, and offer direct nutrients
meanwhile, meat can easily dry up or dehydrate (I feel), and has probably half the nutritional value?
Humans are mostly made up of water and if they’re not drinking nearly enough or eating these types of foods that help replenish water levels, I’m sure they’d experience some risks.
It’s known fatty foods can clog arteries. They take longer to digest, as well, which in part, can burn more calories and that is good news for someone who barely works out, but for an active person who needs some weight- burning extra would not be good (especially with a fast metabolism)
It means it’s taking up literal energy just to down the meal.
I’d say the plants are easily accessible/ easy to maintain/ and have more benefits
So yeah, I can see vegetarians living longer, for sure
The nutrients that we call "vitamins" and "minerals" are the fat and the flesh. The water is just... water!
@YourFavoriteFriend you didn’t read anything I said numb nuts.
Food provides energy, yes, but water is the key source to ****human preservation****
If we were a car with many gears, water is the very thing that helps us function;
It helps us flow everything in our body..
How you gonna get food to your belly or broken down if you got no water to slide it down with liquid acid- I’m sure that gets produced in helping and making sure food is broken down- basically, from the water in our body
Look, let’s get very drastic for a second, okay:
You take some cinnamon- which is healthy for you… and you just try to eat a cup full and tell me how it goes.
I’ll give you my number, and I wanna hear you actually TELL me, audibly, how it’s going and I know for a fact you won’t be able to because that will dry up your esophageal fluids, and you’ll inhale and eventually cough and choke on the particles-
Particles with ZERO moisture.
So.. in summary..
We need water to preserve us
SO
that we don’t dry up or clog up
It’s a simple answer, using basic context clues and common sense, dude
And the best part about MY answer, is I didn’t recommend an ALL WATER DIET
I said veggies versus meat…
You go talk to a nutritionist and try to tell them meat is healthier and richer in nutrients, than crops, and they’ll laugh at you or you’ll be a major concern, in which they’ll sit you down and try to teach you…
RE-teach* you, what you already should’ve learned in health class.
Dismissed. 💥🔨 👩⚖️ ⚖️
P. s.
In case you didn’t know, we have water in our bones every part of our being needs to be hydrated, and when things get a little too close to the reaper side of things,
Doctors recommend what? I’m sorry I can’t hear you- 👂
WATER
lots of fluids
Water/ drinks with plenty of electrolytes/ fruit drinks, for what? VITAMIN C?
Blasphemy!
Yeah, so every athlete is not begging for a burger at the end of their marathon.. they’ll be asking for a water 😉
Leave your wild crazy thoughts and opinions on your own comment. I think mine is just fine as is…
Wow! I have get used to that happening but the fact that your wrote a whole HUGE post to explain my something that I did understood because you didn't got my point is so funny, lol! Yeah, I know we need water to survive. Men are made of 50% water and Women are made of 60% water. That's not what I meant and I thought it's obvious but because it seems that it's not, let's make it a little bit clear.
You can get water separately without your food. We call this "drinking water". You can get the whole water requirements you need with this method. Glad I taught you something new today. ;)
For that reason, the fact that plants contain and preserve more water adds 0 value to them except if you are a survivor in an island or something and you don't have a water supply. There is actually a process called "dry aging" which they try to dehydrate beef (and I guess you can do it any any other meat) because it tastes better this way. And then they give you water separately so YOU don't dehydrate.
Your post was funny tho and you didn't tried to offend or make me look stupid, so I don't mind. Have a nice day! ;)
@YourFavoriteFriend If you didn’t have access to water- and it was between meat and vegetables- you’d be better off with the vegetables..
Like I said water = preservation longer life/ longevity, and that’s why older people moisturize their skin. You can never have enough water. (Did you even read the question)? Lmao
Based on your English I’m gonna (possibly) “foolishly” guess you’re Indian, and you just discovered the benefits of meat, and want to sort of “rebel” or I don't know “expand” from your customs, so you promote eating meat, well that doesn’t apply here..
You make a good statement about adding and taking away water/ aka fluctuating levels, but the facts remain facts.
I dare you to eat meat the rest of your life then, and that should be no problem for you😱😃
Have a nice day 😃
P. s. you don’t need me to make a fool of yourself. I can just call it as I see it.
Like it or not 😝👌
Here I really feel bad for leaving you hanging on a cliff hanger.. where are my manners lol
I’ll throw in these casual floating facts that are worth observing..
Life span of a lion (carnivore): 8- 16 years average
Lifespan of a Cow (herbivore): +20 years
Life span of a Cheetah (carnivore): 8-15 years
Life span of a horse (herbivore): 25-30 years
Life span of a tiger (carnivore): 8-10 years
Now one could say that carnivores actually experience more danger in trying to obtain food frequently, but though that is so, we do see their average life span rates just a little over half and some under half. They have their defenses and you’d expect to see some living longer with exception, but these are the average common/ popular trends.
They don’t even come close to the herbivore counter parts that exceed them in actual years of longevity.
Even for a bonus- I throw in the common house cat- who has little “fight back” from their prey: mice; etc.
Life span of the common house cat (carnivore): 13-14 years
So same trend for the carnivores.
Not only do you have the dryness of meat and the cattiness, but there’s chances or parasites being on meat, and probably and possibly more so than that on vegetation.
The only house cats who live longer, would be those who have secured/ sanitary/ no-hassle diets from their owners with access to water, and Veterinary care, so prevent any illness in advance.
Watch this, and you'll find your answer
There's too many factors to look at and not enough long term studies. I suspect any claims are based on anecdotal evidence and rather biased.
Winston Churchill died at the age of 90. He was a heavy smoker, heavy drinker, he ate a traditional British fry-up every morning and never exercised beyond a walk around his estate.
Doctors have no idea what increases longevity at this point in time. Modern medicine still has a long way to go before they can predict whether someone will live to be old or die young.
Yes but It's probably cuz vegans are avoiding a lot of processed food and eating healthier in general.
The thing is to have compound of veg and meat and to start your meal with something sour or salt and end in salt or sour because this way you can kill harmful bacteria and to keep the good ones in also don't eat until you full leave enough space for water and breathing
Probably, meat has a lot of fat. It mostly depends on how much protein is consumed, most vegans eat a lot of beans and nuts because they are chock-full of protein.
I read a vegetarian that consumes dairy has an IQ 8 points higher than a non vegetarian and a vegan that avoids dairy has an IQ 10 points lower than an omnivore.
It’s all in moderation, I don’t eat too much red meat and some days I don’t need any meat, are usually eat chicken or turkey and sometimes fish. It really depends on genetics mostly sons my stepdad‘s been eating red meat all his life and it’s 77 years old with no signs of any health problems
Makes sense to me. Red meat rules!
Um I don't know, I kinda eat both, ya know? I mean, I do know some vegetarians, but that's completely different and they seem to be doing alright
But vegans? I'm not sure exactly, so I can't comment lmao
Not from what I've seen! Most of them I've seen tend to look 20 or 30 years older than they actually are! Dad, however, a meat-eater, died at 81 and still looked like he was in his 50's!!
Cool picture! I would have thought that they lived shorter lives than meat eaters, since they're deprived of nutrients
Generally yes, as vegans pay a lot more attention to what they eat and generally live a healthier lifestyle overall.
A few years ago Jesse Waters (Fox news) had a college professor on that was a vegan i have her before very pretty healthy looking young woman after 2 years of being a vegan she literally looked like a drug addict
Go to YouTube and do a search for vegan deterioration and learn more
We humans need meat we need protein in our diets to be healthy and nothing tastes better than a juicy steak
On average, probably, because those meat eaters include SAD. But it's like comparing a donut-eater to a salad eater. If you do a fair comparison in the Amazon then vegans starve to death and meat eaters reign supreme.
You know, that's how we came to conquer the planet as a species including our ancestral hominids. We defined ourselves by the use of tools to hunt and butcher meat and basically fuck up the planet. That's who we are in the wild absent grocery stores and mangos imported from across the world. We eat meat and fuck up the environment. Welcome to the human race!
Apparently having a diet high in lentils and legumes helps you to live at least 10 years longer meat is not bad it’s only bad if you eat it too often, or eat red meat, also if you eat fish that’s high in mercury
That's something you should ask scientist or a Dr
Humans are omnivores. Thats what I go with.
Well it may be true that vegans live longer but time flies when you are having fun
No. Vegans just have limited access to junk foods that's why they may seem healthier but those who aren't vegan who have proper self control are healthier.
And they may live longer
That's a good question. You would have to control for other factors affecting longevity. I do think that everyone should make healthy plant-based foods a significant part of their diets.
this literally doesn't matter. (coming from a vegetarian). you could die literally at any time, regardless of what you choose to eat. scary.
no. it probsbly just seems that way because they can't eat hamburgers.
No but statistics prove they are far more likely to be spoilt whining middle class little cunts enjoy your smashed avocado I'm off for a steak
To me, no. They have just as much health issues as anyone else. Death hits everyone. They aren't special.
Living longer is a cool idea. But given how unpredictable life is, I'd rather eat a stake instead of a salad.
Yes vegans live longer not necessarily because of food but because of lifestyle factors.
I'm a vegan too and never felt better and more energetic.
No they don’t they actually live longer than people who can’t afford to be picky because they don’t know when their next meal is coming
If its grown without those nasty pesticides or hormones, you can eat like shit, and shed the wieght. I learned that when I visited an agrarian town in Mexico.
I don't think so... I think generics play the biggest part in a person life span.
People who eats everything in moderation and maintain a healthy and balanced diet can live longer than people who doesn’t (Usually)
People be naive I'd say. There is no clear supportive evidence of that.
Maybe, but c'mon... what kind of life is that? 🤣
In this life, walking to the store can cut your life short
Humanity survived the ice age by meating, so the vegans are welcome to die of malnurishment. No one's gonna miss these phanatics anyway.
Of course they do, if they go around shooting meatlovers. Dont believe me, your picture doesn't lie.
I don't know, but people who eat a lot of meat don't live very long on average.
Meh, I don't care even if it is true. I'd rather live a shorter more enjoyable life.
be nice to think they do but any good food will help you live longer
Rather live happy than longer. Plus there no evidence to prove that.
Usually they probably do since their coronary arteries probably don't get clogged up as fast.
I don’t even think non smokers can say that about smokers.
I don’t think they live longer because God Designed our bodies for Meat!
Vegans hate meat so much that they invent new foods to taste just like meat.
