How Smoky do you like your smoked meat?

We used to use apple wood, because it was free. But we hated getting it in the dead of winter. Damn, that was so cold. But our German sausage was the best.
Free is the best. I use free too. Fruit trees are awesome as well as nut trees
I have a small orchard to collect from also. It’s a wonderful use of wood that would otherwise be wasted. I also do tree work on the side and collect from hurricane blowdowns
My dad has a smokehouse. I want to build one. I only have a hot smoker right now that I built to cook meat.
A cold smoker full or cured smoked meat is a blessing for anyone! Especially for a large family. I freeze and can mine. But I absolutely love visiting Dads house and eating his abundance of smoked delights.
We ate 2 year old bacon from his smokehouse last year and it was sooooooooo good
When I was in Thailand I saw that they sold wood charcoal. So some guy would collect wood from the forest, and burn it. It had a high value, because people cooked indoors, and the charcoal doesn't smoke much. They just couldn't afford electric or gas stoves, so they cooked with an indoor fire pit.
They put the fire pits near an open window, and it worked out. It was quite interesting.
People just find ways to do stuff.
So many ways to live and live well
I grew up in Michigan but it wasn’t that bad
I’d like to visit in the summer lol
I love Stephen King lol
One of my favourites! But books not movies. Books are 1,000,000 times better
South Dakota badlands are on my list of places to visit
In summer of course lol
The most dangerous thing is to miss out on life
Camping is great! Especially remote camping
One time my boyfriend and I rented a motor home for a week. We were going to get a cabin, but this was cheaper.
You push this button, and that happens

Microwave
Coffee machine
TV
Stove
Oven
It was a very boring week for me. I remember looking out of the window and being envious of people with tents, and cooking over a fire. At least they had something to do to kill time.
I love the isolation and freedom of remote camping. And yes you definitely have to think and plan ahead
I talked to a guy who is an engineer, and he had a cabin North of Fairbanks. He said it was 8 hours to get there, and snowmobiles were the only option. Talk about remote. He took his family up there every Christmas. He said his kids got to see reindeer every Christmas. I only mentioned that he's an engineer, because his dream is to live there when he retires. He will be living off-grid, and he's smart enough to know how to do that. But I looked over at his wife, and she just rolled her eyes and smiled.
Fuck that! lol I'd rather live in North Dakota, and you know how much I think about that place.
Lol, looks like he’s moving up there alone!
What’s enjoyable for one person is miserable for the next, and visa versa… same as the difference between big city living and rural farm life. To
Each their own
Dangerous to live in the city, dangerous to live in the Woods. Animals and people both dangerous
And more human criminals
True lol true
Super Smoky!

Lmao
I like pretty heavy smoke on mine, but it depends on the meat and the wood.
That brisket looks good. Are you going to do burnt ends?
It was good. We just consumed it
Moderately smoky with brown sugar and garlic rubs. Hickory or applewood, or a mix of them.
Yummy

Smokey taste but no burnt ends
Burnt ends are the yummiest
Not sure. Just don't burn the poultry or salmon.
Burning is bad
Yeah. Unless it's burning marshmallows over a campfire then it isn't.
True 🥰
Well not very given the time spent. Granted I tried liquid smoke, which didn't work and resulted in a loss of time.
Liquid smoke doesn’t cut it
Doesn't smoke it either.
No kidding!!! Lol
I eat no meat. I just like the smokey shrooms and some fruits and bread.
Smoked cheese?
I'm vegan so I eat no dairy. I like the smoked vegan cheese, but I eat it quite rarely.
Makes sense Smokey taste is good though
Depends on the wood. I’m allergic to a couple.
Propane too.
Wow! Yikes!
I cook on straight wood mostly. It’s the best flavour.
This was actually live oak
I agree. It tastes the best. I’m good with oak.
What is it you made?
Brisket
Soooooo good
A little smoky but not a lot.
I love pecan smoked meat!
Sounds very yummy, haven’t tried that!
Sweeter wood, but not quite cherry
Maple is a light sweet smoke too
I prefer hickory for pork
I am vegetarian
I only cook vegetarian cows
